If you enjoy epic battles between good and evil you will love this one! I will say that it had great characters and a nice twist to set it apart from the usual. I enjoyed listening to this book.

I've read a few of this author's other books and this is definitely different to his other works but just as good.

Scarlet Thomas and her dad move to Redlake for his work and because it's a new one, her dad is working all hours. Scarlet has no friends yet but has a job in a book store, which she enjoys. While walking home one evening by the lake, she comes across a naked man who seems to have lost his memory. For some reason she takes him home but he disappears when her dad comes home. Next day she is again walking near the lake when a stranger approaches, he calls her the spark and says she needs to be destroyed. His touch burns her but the man from the night before suddenly appears and saves her. She runs to the book shop and what is revealed will change her life forever.

This was such a unique book and one I devoured. I pretty much everything about it. Characters: Loved Scarlet, she is a strong girl but also just looking to be safe and loved. Sorrow, it's the name Scarlet gives him because he can't remember his own. He is there to keep Scarlet safe and takes his job seriously! He is a mysterious enigmatic character and I need to know more!! Then we have the "bad" guy. Gosh this dude is like the terminator cause he kept coming back and was nearly invincible! So cool!! ;) All of these were well written and developed and easily likable.

In all, this was an action packed, unique and gripping book. I am totally invested in these characters and need to know more, I need to see what happens Scarlet and Sorrow and just what is up with her mother?? In other words, I need book 2 now!!!!

Nigel Patterson, what can I say!! He has such an easy voice to listen to and made for an amazing Sorrow!! He even had a good female voice. He really brought this story to life and I hope he narrates the next.

Totally underrated

I love the story of the Jin. Nalia is a beautifully different type of hero and this is a refreshing twist from the vampires, werewolves etc of this age. Has culture, history and fantasy all together and a deep completely believable love story that made me cry.

Such an Awesome Adventure!

I didn't quite know what to expect with this one, but I took a chance and Brett Matthew Williams did not disappoint!

There's just so much goodness I don't even know where to begin. This book is an amazing adventure ride for teenagers and adults alike. Brett uses this platform to address a number of societal ills and weak points as he takes us on a journey back and forth through time with a host of truly memorable characters.

It's like a mixture of Twilight, Harry Potter, Night at the Museum, Indiana Jones and almost any other great fantastical body of work you've enjoyed over the decades and present day. Such vivid storytelling. I found my self feeling angry, sad (especially as we got to know the homeless kid's story), excited, scared and disappointed when it ended!

Pick this one up for a great time-killer and a great trip down history's memory lane.

Awesome - my favorite book in a long time!

Would you consider the audio edition of Time Is Relative for a Knight of Time to be better than the print version?

I much prefer audio than print books - this one was awesome to listen to on the way to work and when out for a walk. It just suits my lifestyle better.

What about Brett Matthew Williamss performance did you like?

A very engaging voice! Some narrators can be quite irritating to listen to, or even worse just plain boring but thankfully Bretts narration was great.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I wanted to but it is definitely not possible as it is quite long (which is obviously a good thing), but that meant it kept me going for a few weeks. I have to admit I did have one day of sitting in my car outside my destination, waiting for another 25 minutes to see what happened next!

Any additional comments?

A very interesting story which kept me hanging on to see what happened next - a book about a boy who bends time and space to solve the mystery of his mothers murder would not be my usual thing I must admit, but this one kept me hanging on. Totally recommended!

Great concept, poor execution

Have you ever put off a review because you don't want to write it? That is how it has been with me and my review for Concentr8. I have been trying to get myself to write it for weeks. Actually, to be totally honest, this is not the only review I have been putting off. Well, I decided that I am going to open up where I write my reviews and just write it. I need to get it done.

Concentr8 takes place in London England in the not so distant future. Or maybe it is distant. It is kind of hard to tell. The city is currently under going a riot of epic proportions. Why? The government decided that it would stop supplying the medication Concentr8, used to treat ADHD, to the people. This medication is so wide spread and used by so many people that they all freak out and riot. A lot of them being teenagers.

Teenagers like our main characters. Our story follows a group of them. We start out at the riot, where they aren't doing much at all, and then the ring leader decides to kidnap a random government employee. The other kids don't know why, but they follow along anyways.

Then they take the kidnapped employee into an abandoned warehouse. They become public news. The mayor gets involved. Things happen. The whole story takes place over the course of 6 days.

I personally thought that this story sounded like an interesting one. I had such faith going into it that it was going to be good. I was so bitterly disappointed.

There are a lot of different narratives to follow with in this story. While this is not normally a thing that turns me off, when all the narratives essentially sound like I am following the same person when I am not supposed to be, I find them a horrible drag. And that is how they were in Concentr8. Unfortunately, I found them to be very poorly executed. To make matters worse, I felt like the author had tried too hard with it. So many of the sentences ended with "?"s when they really didn't need to.

I love the Spooks series of books absolutely getting sucked in so can't wait to read or listen to the next. If u haven't read any of his books I'd recommend them to just about anyone.

I Love these books, so imaginative.

I was sceptical about the Tom ward books continuing but these books are really imaginative and well written. The narration is excellent.

A let down

Would you try another book written by Joseph Delaney or narrated by the narrators?

I really like this series in general, so I will definitely read the next one. I would also happily listen to another book read by Clare Corbett.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

Good ending - looking forward to the next one.

Who might you have cast as narrator instead of the narrators?

The female actors were excellent, but the male actor who read Tom Ward was dreadful. Absolutely dreadful. He made Tom sound like a simpleton and I think this narration actually stopped me enjoying the story. He genuinely sounded like Mr Bloom from CBeebies. I would therefore cast virtually anyone else as Tom, as long as he doesn't read like he's narrating to infants.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Overall, disappointed. As mentioned above, though, this is more due to the performance than the book. If the next one is narrated by the same cast, I'll just read it.

I have enjoyed the Spooks series previously and the Character of Tom is in my opinion weakened in this book. I'm not sure whether it is the writing or the narrator but the image I had of both Tom and Alice were considerably different from the ones portrayed in this novel. I hoped it would improve, unfortunately it didn't, very disappointing

A fitting end

Would you consider the audio edition of The Shepherd's Crown (Abridged) to be better than the print version?

The written text is better as has more detail but I wanted to hear Tony Robinson tell the final tale.

There is much bittersweet sentiment and I admit to a little cry every now and again thats never happened with a discworld book before!

What does Tony Robinson bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you had only read the book?

Tony's voice has been the voice of many a Pratchett book to me, no more so than the Nac mac feegals!

A few teary moments but a flood at the end!
