Jesus came in a manger, lived a sinless life, died on the cross...but is there more? What do we have to look forward to? To hope for? There is more! He not only died, but rose again. And if He was raised, we too will be raised at His return!

I don’t know if you’ve thought about this or not, but you’re hardwired for hope. You don't live by instinct. Every decision you make, every choice you make, every response you have to the situations and relationships of your life is fueled and motivated by hope. Your story--the story of your life--is a hope story. Your happiest moments are hope moments. Even your saddest moments are about hope dashed or hope destroyed. You’re always looking for hope. You’re always attaching the hope of your heart to something.

The problem is that there is no created thing in this world that will be able to sustain your hope. Everything will fail you. Every person, job, or situation will eventually leave you hopeless. But that's not a bad thing, because hopelessness is the doorway to true Hope.

What we tend to get caught up in during the Christmas season is actually just a shadow. The lights, the presents, the family reunions -- these are all good things, but they're just a shadow of what our hearts really long for. In this series, we talk about the substance behind the shadow.

Advent means "the arrival of someone long awaited", but how long exactly? How long did humanity wait for THE advent? And what were the specifics of Who they were waiting for? Do the prophecies in the Old Testament dating 4,000 years before Jesus really point to Him as the Messiah? How can we be sure? You've probably heard this before: "Judge not, lest you be judged." It's America's favorite verse. People will quote it when it's the only verse they know in the Bible (whether they are Christians or not). But what did Jesus mean by that? Did He mean that we can't call people out on stuff? We can't correct? We can't talk about sin? If He didn't mean that and we are supposed to "judge", who are we supposed to judge and how? It's all over the Old Testament and Jesus even quotes it in Luke 6. But He doesn't stop there. He raises the bar by saying not "do unto others as you would have them do unto you", but "do unto others as GOD has done unto you."
