    When Brad and Randy's constant fighting gets to be too much, Tim wants to give the older boy his own room and move Mark in with Randy. Jill wants to discuss the matter with the boys, but before she can Tim acts unilaterally and tells Mark to move in with Randy. Jill is angry at Tim for going against her wishes, while Tim accuses her - and all women - of being indecisive. Out back, Wilson reminds Tim that the boys' dispute can only be solved by getting at the root of the problem, while Jill has a heart-to-heart with Randy that convinces him bunking with Mark won't be all that bad.

He gives one to both Jill and Tim, asking for their honest feedback. They attempt to read it, but the book winds up being so boring that they can’t get through it. When Jill reluctantly confesses to her father that she thinks the book needs a lot of work, he gets angry and blows up at her. After some encouragement from Wilson, Jill is able to sit down and talk to her father about how he needs to manage his anger better.

By the time Wilson arrives with their spare keys, Al is furious at Tim. Wilson explains to Tim that sometimes your friends expect you to engage with their lives in a meaningful way, and Tim makes an effort to talk to Al the whole way home... Even though he accidentally burns the shack down on his way out the door.

    When local bully Vinnie McGuirn pushes Randy too far, Tim encourages him to put the bully in his place by challenging him to a sled race - and to give Randy a leg up, Tim soups up his sled with a spoiler. When a practice run lands Randy in the ER with a sprained wrist, Jill is angry that Tim encouraged her son to engage in such a dangerous act of competition. But Randy insists that he needs to beat Vinnie in order to prove to himself and everyone else that he's not a shrimp -- and Jill agrees. Ultimately, Randy races Vinnie and beats him - but Tim manages to get injured in a rematch race with Vinnie's father.

    Meanwhile, Brad is doing everything he can to get out of his saxophone lessons, while Tim and Al work with squeaky floorboards on Tool Time.
