  • SlothBoogie Guestmix #303 - JD Twitch
Serendipity is a wonderful thing, and when we looked ahead in the guestmix calendar, a certain number jumped out. 303. A number synonymous with the roots of house music, which presented itself with a (somewhat obvious) opportunity to get an old friend into the series... a man who saw it all unfold before his very eyes in the 90's, and who himself excels with the execution of mixes with an underlying concept.
Welcome to JD Twitch's ode to the Roland 303.
"The Roland 303 is a little silver box of electronics that accidentally produced the squelching sound that became the foundation of Acid House. Pioneered circa 1987 in Chicago, Acid House exploded around the world and that sound spread through electronic music creating myriad variants.
Fundamentally the 303 is instantly recognisable by its squelch sound. This squelch can be euphoric, hypnotic, joyous, uplifting, sad, dark, cheesy, silly, scary, ridiculous, psychedelic, beautiful and anthemic. This mix aims to showcase many of these shades of the squelch. It is not the greatest hits of the 303, nor is it a collection of wilfully obscure forgotten 303 jams, it's just simply a paean to the majesty and never ending sonic possibilities of the squelch. Viva Acid!"

  • SlothBoogie Guestmix #302 - Nathalie Capello
Nathalie has been a staple of Berlin’s incomparable underground scene since 2014, playing the city’s joie de vivre open-air parties and peak time house sets at titans of the Berlin club circuit such as Salon zur Wilden Renate and Tresor. Hailing from Rotterdam, Nathalie’s Nightlife education was thorough and diverse. Her rave-forward pallet is unmistakable, commonly blending nostalgic breakbeats, golden-era vocal house, and blistering acid with the best hidden gems of the contemporary underground.
"I recorded this mix at home with my Technics and my Xone:23
The idea behind the mix is... 100% Ian Pooley!
I didn’t really have a clear idea of what I wanted to do for this mix. Then I got inspired from listening to a mix CD by Ian Pooley whilst cleaning my flat. Just before Ian left Berlin last year he generously gave me a bunch of his own records and CDs. I decided to limit myself and only play music by Ian Pooley that I have vinyl, mainly from the mid noughties era. To be honest, that limitation made recording this mix so much easier, as I knew what I wanted to do and it left little room for overthinking. I ended up recording the mix in one go, which is quite unusual for me, and enjoying myself in the process. ;)
    Hope you enjoy."

  • SlothBoogie Guestmix #301 - Apparel Wax
Once upon a time, there was a collective of masked men who wanted to be vinyl. They decided that the image that the world would have of them would be that of a record with human features, a masked anti-hero in the service of music. They called themselves Apparel Wax, to dress the sound in wax and to tell its rhythm, without declaring themselves, remaining in the darkness.
    Apparel Tracklist:

  • SlothBoogie Guestmix #300 - Mr. G
The term 'legend' is often banded around willy nilly in the dance music realm, but Mr. G, aka Colin McBean, is one of the few who can rightfully lay claim to this accolade.
Who better to mark the milestone of guestmix 300?
A house music hero, with a vibrance and energy akin to a freshly lit Catherine wheel, we invite you to sit back and enjoy an effortless, live recording, of a master digging deep into his collection.

  • SlothBoogie Guestmix #299 - Lulah Francs
After having the pleasure of sharing a booth with Lulah at By Day By Night recently, we couldn't help be swept away with her effortless groove. Naturally then, we had to give her the floor, so she could share it with you too...
Lulah is a Techno, Acid and House DJ, singer and producer. Growing up between London and Ibiza Lulah has been immersed in music from day 1. Lulah's main focus for the foreseeable is collaborative projects with producers, bringing her vocals into the mix to create an interesting and diverse discography. Lulah has also kickstarted and founded her own clubnight 'sub:terra', which focuses on reviving the Acid House days of the UK and East Coast to her generation that missed out on the madness the first time around. They've had two sold-out shows at The Cause already, and the likes of Fold and Fabric are next on the radar.

  • SlothBoogie Guestmix #298 - Tiptoes
To celebrate his forthcoming track 'Protected', which forms part of our Dancing with Friends vol2 compilation, we've invited Glaswegian disco slicer Tiptoes into the guest mix series. Keep your eyes peeled later in the year for his Vinyl debut on the label, with a hi-nrg wax workout titled 'Good Vibes Coming'...
"When I’m approaching a mix I always do loads of prep and digging and I usually like to make some kind of intro/spoken word thing to kick things off and set the context.
For this mix, I dug out a bunch of vinyl and a few older gems that I haven’t played in a while alongside some newer bits that I’ve been feeling. I always think a mix is a chance to shine a light on tracks that people may not have heard and are maybe less likely to hear when they’re out and about. There’s also the obligatory shameless self-promotion with a couple of my own tracks squeezed in there as well.
After all the prep when I finally get down to doing the mix I always record live in one take rather than layering up a bunch of tracks in a DAW and warping them to tempo as I like to feel the immediacy of the mix in its natural context rather than in a studio environment. Admittedly it’s not always quite as tidy this way but I prefer to give the listener that ‘’this was mixed live by an actual person’’ feeling.
Hopefully, this mix will find its way into a few living rooms, kitchens and afters as we all get back to clubs, normality and dancing with friends this summer, enjoy!" - Tiptoes x

  • SlothBoogie Guestmix #297 - Jade Cox
Raw crunchy 909 beats, grooved-out 70s funk hits and attention grabbing Acid lines are just a few of the trademark musical ingredients Jade Cox has come to be known for. Though, while Jade's sound isn't unlike one you'd have become accustomed to hearing in a warehouse of late '80s Chicago, this hasn't stopped the young talented London DJ from representing her unique spin on that style.
With her skills turning heads wherever she plays and an ever uncompromising realness to the music, she progressively built a following on London's pirate radio airwaves, then her production on labels such as Robsoul Recordings, Cross Section, and her own Shakedown Avenue imprint, have enabled her to push the style she truly loves and believes in!
"This mix was recorded from home using a variety of older records from my collection, some newer beats, and features a Phil Weeks remix from my latest release on my new label Shakedown Avenue... x"

  • SlothBoogie Guestmix #295 - Kid Simius
Adept, versatile, dedicated, and full of positivity, Kid Simius is a wizkid who has dedicated himself to the ethos: ‘There are no labels, no tags, just music’. Born in Granada, Spain, and currently based in Berlin, Kid Simius circumvents genre limitations to embrace and merge a myriad of styles. Delving into electronic music, ambient, surf-inspired electronica, Balearic, disco, and lots more, this is an artist who puts good energy and human connection above genre labels.
Since relocating to the German capital he has created unorthodox beats as part of the Marsimoto crew, delivered remixes for Parcels or Beatsteaks, released many successful tracks as a solo artists on his label 'Jirafa Records‘ (remixed by Echonomist, Paul Kalkbrenner, Fort Romeau & Magit Cacoon) and co-wrote a platinum-certified chartbuster on the side, with Marteria’s ‘Lila Wolken’. On the radio, or in the studio, on the road, or simply jamming and freestyling, Kid Simius makes music at the moment and for the moment. There’s no fakery or pretence, just pure, deep authentic love for music in its many beautiful forms.

  • SlothBoogie Guestmix #294 - Casbah 73
Originally hailing from NYC but raised in Madrid, Spain where he is now based, Oli Stewart aka Casbah 73 spent the better part of the nineties scouring the US for vinyl, leaving no warehouse intact in his quest for the rare and the downright elusive. His knack for discovering, or bringing to light many an unknown classic, meant his reputation with DJs and producers around the globe was legendary.
"Like many, this enforced absence from dancefloors, from dancing, is something I missed so much this past year, a reality I really couldn't ignore when approaching this mix. It's been a time for taking stock, appreciating what we love, and seeing things from a new perspective.
In light of this, I decided the best thing to do was to simply tear things up, start at the beginning, approach the mix with a totally fresh mindset. Out with old habits and concepts! Shake it all up and see what drops out of the tree. So with this in mind, I fired up the equipment, hit play on the turntables and this, as they say, is what happened next. The result? From Disco to Detroit and back again. The old, the new, with particular emphasis on raw, loose sounds.
I hope you enjoy it and, more importantly, I hope we all get to see each other on a dancefloor somewhere soon!"
