The love of God in Christ Jesus didn’t come into the world like we ever expected or do what we ever thought it would do. The King of Kings would be the Lamb who was slain. As Isaiah looked towards this Messiah, the Christ, he asks the question that remains for us today, “who would have thought God’s saving power would look like this?” Join us in the wonder of God’s love this week.

In this passage, Isaiah receives a vision from the LORD that is a gift of Hope. It is a vision that is meant to encourage and empower the people of his time, and the people of all times. It is more than an idea or principle that gets planted in our minds. It is the LORD’s promise that transforms our life and actions in this place and time by means of a hope given to us from outside this place and time

For the rest of Advent through New Year's Day, we will be leaning into the prophet Isaiah considering His words about the coming Messiah. We will consider what these words have meant for the people of God throughout history. This Sunday we will consider Isaiah 11 - a word of HOPE in a time of uncertainty and despair. How did Israel receive these words? How did Jesus fulfill these words? And what do they mean for us 2,000 years later? Maybe the book of Revelation can even offer some insight?? Isaiah 11:1-12

When all seems lost, when we lack hope, peace, and joy, what are we to do? Where are we to go? The prophet Isaiah directs Israel, and us, to the truth that we have hope in God and His promises, peace in Christ and His presence, as well as joy in the anticipation of what the Spirit of God is doing and will do. A shoot will rise and has risen from the stump of Jesse.

I Kings 3:1-15

Look at Solomon’s life, and you will see some good things and some bad things. Read with “Gospel-Eyes” and you will see in Solomon a “divided heart” with painful consequences for himself and for others. Wisdom, prosperity and control are not enough for fullness of human flourishing. We need a Savior.

We continue working through the grand narrative of scripture using "The Story" that helps us understand the bible as a unified story that leads to Jesus. This week we continue a new mini-series / movement in the Story that will carry us through Advent called "A King is Coming." We will remember that time when Israel was united under one King while at the same time remembering the advent of the King, Jesus. This week we remember King Solomon, the King who had it all and yet still turned away from the Lord. How does excess impact the human heart?

King Solomon, David’s son, got off to a good start in his reign asking God for wisdom, and by the world’s standards most of his reign looked like a complete and utter success filled with peace and contentment. However, when we pull back the curtain of his life, we see a series of compromises that ultimately lead to his downfall and lack of peace. This begs the question for us, where does our peace and content lie?
