Behold the Lamb of God

Genesis 22:1-14, 1:19-31, Revelations 5:12

Our God is a God of provision (Jehovah-Jireh) He provides for our simple needs…as well as for our salvation (the Lamb.) The Father and Son acted together. Abraham did not withhold his son, and God the Father did not spare His one and only Son, but, delivered Him up for us all, for the greater good.

At Christmas we celebrate the fact that Jesus came into the world, moved into the neighborhood per se. As much as this is a spectacular gift, the truth that God continues to be with us now is just as spectacular and astounding. Join us as we celebrate this ongoing gift of Immanuel, God with us.

Never forget it: Once, we were ALL “outsiders.” Now though, because of what Jesus did on the cross for us, we are made “insiders” who the Holy Spirit is using to welcome and invite “outsiders” IN to the Heavenly Father’s family.

This Sunday we continue our Advent series titled Genealogy of Hope where we are studying Matthew's genealogy of Jesus that opens his gospel account. We will consider why Matthew includes four women in the genealogy (not including Mary) when this would not have been a common practice in that time. All four of these women would have been considered outsiders in their day and this speaks something powerful to each of us who have at some time in our lives been left on the outsider.

Matthew, a tax-collector, knows what it is like to be an outsider, but also knows what it is like to be welcomed in by Jesus. In his genealogy he reminds the Jewish community and us that we were all outsiders who have been welcomed into God’s family by His grace in Jesus Christ.
