Competing Kingdoms

Acts 16:6-40

In Acts 16 Paul begins his second missionary journey along with Silas and their companions. When they reach the city of Philippi, a prominent city in the Roman Empire and first church plant in modern day Europe, tensions quickly arise as the Kingdom of God rubs up against the Kingdom of Rome. This Sunday we will consider how the Gospel impacts several people specifically mentioned by Luke and how the Kingdom of God engages with the Kingdom of Rome in Philippi. Our hope is to more carefully consider how we engage with the Kingdoms of our World as Gospel changed Christ followers.

Open & Closed Doors

Acts 16:1-10

You never know where God may lead and what may happen along the way. This can be very exciting and very frustrating, but the truth is that the Spirit is working. In Acts 16 we will see how God advanced the gospel by leading Paul and his companions through closing and opening doors on their journey, and how this can relate to our lives.

The Gospel With No Added Ingredients

Acts 15:1-31

It was a fork in the road with enormous consequences if they got it wrong. Is the response of faith to the grace of God in Jesus enough for salvation? Or must we include the forms by which we experienced that grace and came to faith? Thankfully, the Holy Spirit guided the deliberations of these first Christians to navigate this fork and move forward to the world with the Gospel of God’s Grace.

Disputes in the Church

Acts 15:1-21

In a world filled with conflict, disagreement, and division one begins to wonder how to best navigate our disputes, especially in the church. This Sunday we will be considering how the early church handled one of the earliest disputes in the church at the Council of Jerusalem in Acts 15 with the hopes of finding some common truths for our time.

What Will Define Us?

Acts 15

Conflict happens. If we live honestly with one another, we can't avoid it. The question is how will we handle it together? What are we fighting over, what are we fighting for? This week we will see how the early church navigated conflict within its own life and how the gospel brought them through.

God Moves Out In His Mission

Acts 13:1-3, 14:21-28

Friends, “it” is not about me or my security. And “it” is not about yours either. Living life to the fullest in this world, is about finding our place and investing our life in the mission that God Himself is invested in: the redemption and reconciliation of His beloved creation to Himself. Don’t live your life in such a way that you miss out on “it.”

It Can All Change in a Moment

Acts 14:8-22

How do we follow Christ in a culture where one minute you can be celebrated and then next you can be crucified? This week we’ll be exploring how the gospel gave Paul and Barnabas, and gives us, the ability to navigate and share the life offered in Christ in a culture and experiences like this.

Only Human

Acts 14: 8-20

This week we continue our journey through the book of Acts looking at Paul's first missionary journey as recorded in Acts 13-14. We will be focusing on Paul's experience in the city of Lystra (Acts 14) where he and Barnabas are exalted as gods in one moment and then in the next, he is dragged out of the city and stoned. We will consider what the Gospel has to say to these extremes particularly in our modern context.

Who's Got the Power?

Acts 12:1-24

There is something in us that needs to have power. So, what happens when we are powerless, when it looks like someone or something else is ruling the day? Do we strive and contend and fight to take back power? We'll get to see this week in Acts how the church and others engaged these kinds of questions, and how the Gospel can shape our answers to these questions today.
