  • 487: Whirlpool of Poop

Part One: Jason Schreier Writes About Cyberpunk 2077’s Development

If the title of this episode didn’t grab your attention, then we don’t know what will! Jack, Fro, and Nate here for this episode of Hardly Focused, on a dreary January weekend. Jack kicks off this episode by featuring the weekly Hardly Shuffled segment. If you’re looking for new songs and artists, follow the Hardly Shuffled playlist on Spotify!

Elsewhere, the dust has yet to settle from the disastrous launch of Cyberpunk 2077. Jack features an article by Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier, detailing the problems with and developer sentiment of the game leading up to its release. Fro and Nate weigh in on “crunch culture,” which infamously plagued the end of Cyberpunk’s development cycle.

Part Two: We Watch a Karen in Florida Get Arrested

Jack presents to Fro and Nate video of a “Karen” in Florida caught on video having a meltdown while being placed under arrest. She claims her constitutional rights were violated when a local coffee shop requested she wear a face mask. In the midst of her anger, when her purse is confiscated “Karen” manages to channel her inner Bobby Hill.

Part Three: Would You Rather Swim Through Poo, or Dead Bodies?

Jack poses to Fro and Nate a couple of questions, stirring discussion during this otherwise slow week. Jack asks if Christmas decorations have been taken down, given it being midway through January. Following up, Jack throws a “would you rather” at Fro and Nate about swimming through… vile material.

  • 486: Insurrection

Part One: Trump Supporters Storm the US Capitol

Jack, Mike and Nate here for a more serious episode of Hardly Focused. The big topic in this episode is the failed coup attempt at the United States Capitol, on January 6. The group weighs in on the subject, including President Trump’s potential (and second) impeachment, invoking the 25th amendment, and more.

Part Two: The Craziest Headlines from the Failed Coup Attempt

Jack, Mike and Nate further discuss the incident at the US Capitol. The group talk about Trump pardoning himself, or hoping Vice President Pence pardons him. Jack notes this would entail Trump having to resign his position, then rely on Pence to follow through on pardoning; something Pence likely won’t do at this point.

Segueing into a special “headline blitz” edition of this podcast’s How Fucking Dumb Are You segment, Jack rolls off the most bizarre headlines to emerge from the coup attempt. Boy, were there some weird ones.

Part Three: We Watch a Danish Cartoon Called “John Dillermand”

In completely different news, a bizarre kids’ show from Denmark emerges. Jack, Mike and Nate watch part of the first episode of “John Dillermand,” featuring – as CNN put it – “a man with a huge and uncontrollable penis.” To best enjoy this segment, watch it on our YouTube channel!

  • Episode 485: Party All the Time

    Part One: RIP Adobe Flash

As the late, great Dick Clark once tried to say: “Dappy Dew Year!” Welcome to the first Hardly Focused episode of 2021, a year hopefully better than it’s predecessor. A full-house for this one; Jack, Kate, Mike and Nate together, both in-person and virtually!

Among some of the topics discussed to kick off the first new podcast of the year include the new season of Letterkenny, and Jack’s understanding of the legal process per 19 seasons of Law and Order. The group also covers how their respective holidays went, ranging from “low-key” to “watch my family member get stupid plastered!”

Elsewhere, the year begins with a notable death – that of Adobe Flash. Jack asks the room what their favorite Flash game or series was. Thanks to both YouTube and the Internet Archive, your favorite Flash cartoons and games still exist in some form – don’t fret!

Part Two: We Watch “All Gas No Brakes” at a Flat Earth Conference

Kate is introduced to the audio gold mine that is All Gas No Brakes. As previously featured, host Andrew Callaghan travels across the country to conventions and gatherings, interviewing America’s best. This time around, Jack features for the room one of Andrew’s early videos – “Flat Earth Conference.”

Part Three: How Far Into the Future Would You Want to See?

Jack begins this segment by pointing out the Grogu/Baby Yoda figure on Mike’s chair. Jack asks Mike and Nate if they think Grogu’s name was revealed too soon on The Mandalorian. This leads Mike into questioning how people think Rogue One is the worst film in the Star Wars franchise.

Meanwhile, Jack introduces a new segment on the show: “I Mustache You a Question!” Jack asks Mike and Nate: “Would you rather have the ability to see 10 minutes into the future or 150 years into the future?” This is how you get the wheels turning, people!
