A Honolulu EMS emergency medical technician was injured Friday morning in an ambulance crash. Officials said the EMT suffered minor injuries and was treated and transported to a hospital by a separate EMS crew. The crash happened about 11 a.m. on Ala Hema Street, when officials said a Spectrum van apparently crossed the centerline and hit the ambulance head-on.

City Council members said two housing bills at the state Legislature would weaken the city’s ability to reign in so-called monster homes. They advanced a resolution voicing strong concerns over House Bill 1630 and Senate Bill 3202. The measures would allow more units on residential lots to help increase housing inventory.

Honolulu police said a woman has died after she was hit by a vehicle early Thursday in Haleiwa. Officials said the collision happened around 3:20 a.m. on Joseph P. Leong Highway. Authorities said the woman had been walking in the right shoulder lane of the roadway when she was hit by an unknown vehicle traveling southbound.

As loved ones, students and the entire community continue to mourn the loss of a murdered Manoa family, the schools where the children attended are holding a vigil. An event has been scheduled for Tuesday to honor the Oda family, especially the young lives who were taken too soon — 17-year-old Sakurako, 12-year-old Orion, and Nana, 10.

The tourism industry is lowering expectations for spring break. Hotels have seen a boost in occupancy — between 70% to 80% — but that’s still below the 90% mark that was typical for spring break before the pandemic. In March 2019, the Hawaii Tourism Authority says 927,000 people traveled to Hawaii.
