Proverbs 22:6 says: “Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.” It is important to know that if you train up your child to act like a kid when matured, then that is what he/she will do. Conversely, if you train up your child to be a responsible adult and act like a responsible adult, then they will be and act responsible.

Have you ever felt as though you do not belong here, as though you are alone? I did. My true sense of belonging happened when I found and was able to present my true authentic, imperfect selve to the world. My sense of belonging can never be greater than my level of self-acceptance, and neither can yours. 

Anger is a misperceived emotion. For many of us from a very young age, we are told that we should not be angry, we have no right to be angry. We shouldn't be angry with God, our parents, our pastor, our____________you fill in the blanks. The reality is that when we see a person blow up in "anger," it is actually rage, repressed, or unresolved anger. In this podcast we talk about anger and how it can be used in a healing way. 

In a world that is so divided, so full of hate and unkindness, a little act of kindness can go a long way. Everybody is going through something, you are not alone. Acts of kindness do not have to be extravagant, grandiose, or expensive. Often times the simplest acts of kindness, such as a smile, a simple hello, or holding the door open for someone will turn a person's day around. I have found that when I am having a bad day, being kind to others is the best way to turn my day around. Try it sometime and see how your day will turn around. 

With the COVID pandemic raging over the past year, there is another pandemic far worse, unseen, and not talked about. What is it? Mental health. With substance abuse, overdoses, suicides, depression, anxiety disorders and many more mental health issues increasing, it is the true pandemic we need to be not only worried about, but talking about. The CDC reported the highest number of U.S. overdose deaths "ever" in May 2020. Between May 2019 and May 2020 there were 81,000 drug overdoses just to mention one part of the real pandemic. Generational curses have a lot to do with who we have become today. Until we can recognize and confront these curses as they have shown up in our lives today, we cannot truly receive the blessings that God has in store for us. We are not what has happened to us or the labels that ourselves or others have put on us. We were born with an assignment from God put us. In order to fulfill that purpose, we must first become the person God intended us to be. 

To often and by well intentioned people, survivors of abuse and trauma are told they need to forgive, forget, and move on, or they are told to get over it, it is done and over with. These words need to be removed from the vocabulary of those using them. Yes we need to learn to forgive and we need to be able to move on. However, this is a process. Forgetting our past is actually not a good thing nor is it psychologically possible. However, we never want to dwell or stay stuck in the trauma of our past. This podcast talks about why we do not want to forget our past, instead we need to learn from our past 

Temptation is a desire to engage in short-term urges for enjoyment that threatens long-term goals. In the context of some religions, temptation is the inclination to sin.Temptation also describes the coaxing or inducing a person into committing such an act, by manipulation or otherwise of curiosity, desire or fear of loss something important to a person.

Temptations have been around since the beginning of time. Adam and Eve were tested in the Garden of Eden and succumbed to that temptation. King David was tempted by Bathseba, succumbed to that temptation, and paid a heavy price. Jesus himself was tempted after spending forty days in the desert, only he defeated the devil at his game. I have even succumbed to temptation and paid some heavy prices.

Succumbing to temptation is a choice. We can NEVER blame others for succumbing to our temptations. The decision lies squarely in or hands. In all temptations lets us consider not what he offers but what we shall loose.
