  • Thyroid and Hair Loss
Hair loss is often a symptom of an underactive thyroid gland.
    Transcript Below:
    [Music]
Hi, Bannister here. Let’s continue to Think Healthy! Today we’re going to talk about one of those lesser known reasons for hair loss.
So, it really sucks when we start losing our hair, but we need to keep in mind that hair loss could actually be a symptom of some underlying conditions.
    Dr. Uppal:
So, one of the major reasons for hair loss, this includes your head, your eyebrows, and your eyelashes is that your thyroid gland may not be working properly.
When we have low thyroid hormones in our blood, this can cause our hair to be stuck in the shedding cycle. So, the longer your thyroid hormones remain sub-optimal, it’s more likely that you will continue to see hair loss.
Bannister Wolfe: Now of course there are other reasons as to why you may be losing your hair. But for you to begin sorting things out, you’re going to need to take a blood test and determine what your thyroid profile actually looks like.

    Hi Bannister here, let's
    continue to Think Healthy!
Today, we're going to talk about drinking
    lots of coffee and ADHD.
    Yep, there's a connection.
    Dopamine actually improves
    our concentration.
    "Coffee actually increases
the amount of dopamine in our brain.
And this is why we feel
    that we can concentrate
better after drinking lots of coffee."
    That was Doctor Puja.
    So if you find yourself
drinking more than three cups of coffee
a day, you may be using coffee as a way
    to self medicate
    an undiagnosed ADHD situation.
    "This doesn't apply to everybody,
but if you or your loved
    ones are drinking coffee
    way more than normal,
it may be worth taking the time
to talk to your doctor and determine
if you need an ADHD screening test."
So now you know that dopamine,
    coffee, ADHD are all related.
We'll see you in the next one.

  • Hygiene and Depression are connected. Sleep Apnea and Headaches are connected.

    Show Notes and Transcript:
Hi, Doctor Puja here! Let's continue to Think Healthy. Today, let's talk about DEPRESSION. I want you to know that depression can look VERY different in teens and adults. It's not all the same.
One way depression exhibits itself in teens: is actually a lack of personal hygiene. It's gonna look like the young person's no longer showering regularly. They're not brushing their teeth, they're not taking care of themselves physically. Oftentimes, parents or caregivers ignore these outward visible symptoms because they don't want to comment on the appearance of their child. But, as a caretaker, this is something I think you should at least start considering.
If you see a sudden drop off in the personal hygiene habits of your young ones, this may be a sign of depression, and it's worth having a conversation together with your doctor, teenager, and health care team! As always, there's more content on my website. Till then I'm doctor Puja.

Hi Doctor Puja here. Let's continue to Think Healthy. Today, I want to talk to you about headaches & why you may be getting them from something you haven't considered!
I'm talking about: sleep apnea. Data is showing that people with sleep apnea are more likely to have morning headaches. So if you find yourself suddenly struggling with morning headaches--you're having a hard time starting your day & you're not getting up as fresh as you were earlier: I think it may be worth your time in discussing these morning headaches and sleep apnea with your health care team.

Hi, Doctor Puja here. Let's continue to Think Healthy.  Today, I want to talk about Vertigo.  Most instances of Vertigo occur due to inner ear problems.
This means that the part of your ear that's responsible for balance, for whatever reason, is off, and this causes Vertigo.
