While Tairāwhiti and Wairoa continue to clean up after last week's torrential downpours, MetService is already warning more heavy rain is possible in the area tonight.

A medium-scale adverse event has been declared, unlocking extra help for the region's farmers and growers; and a local state of emergency is still in place.
