The question being debated in Acts 15 is this: What has greater weight: being circumcised in the flesh or being circumcised in the heart? Let’s look at a summary of Paul’s teaching on this subject so far:

In Romans 2, Paul compares non-Jews who are NOT circumcised in the flesh but who follow the Torah. He contrasts these people with Jews who ARE circumcised but who do NOT follow the Torah.

For not the hearers of the Torah are just before God, but the DOERS of the Torah shall be justified. For when the Gentiles, which have NOT the Torah, do by nature the things contained in the Torah, these, having not the Torah, are a law unto themselves. Which show the work of the Torah WRITTEN IN THEIR HEARTS, their conscience also bearing witness, and their thoughts the mean while accusing or else excusing one another. Romans 2: 13-15

Paul goes on to explain that a Jew who is circumcised in the flesh but does NOT follow the Torah would have a spiritual status of being uncircumcised:

You that make your boast of the Torah, through breaking the Torah you dishonour God? For circumcision verily profits, if you keep the Torah: but if you be a breaker of the Torah, your circumcision is made uncircumcision. Romans 2: 23,25

The Pharisees were arguing that new believers in Messiah Yeshua must go through a conversion process into Judaism, culminating in a physical circumcision, and then follow the Rabbis and the Oral law/Talmud. Paul’s argument is that non-Jews who have been circumcised in the heart and are born again, and are following Yeshua and His Torah are NOT required to get physically circumcised or convert to Judaism.

The first century sect of Pharisees are today, known today as Orthodox Judaism or Rabbinic Judaism. This ancient controversy is still argued today.

Comfort ye, comfort ye my people, says your God. Isaiah 40:1

The word “comfort” is code for “end of the exile”.

Behold, the Lord GOD will come with strong hand, and his arm shall rule for him: behold, his reward is with him, and his work before him. He shall feed his flock like a shepherd: he shall gather the lambs with his arm, and carry them in his bosom, and shall gently lead those that are with young. Isaiah 40: 10-11

Hear the word of the LORD, O ye nations, and declare it in the isles afar off, and say, He that scattered Israel will gather him, and keep him, as a shepherd does his flock. Jeremiah 31:10

In this session, we will also look at how John the Baptist came in the spirit and authority of Elijah and how his ministry thematically fits with the Elijah message.

In those days came John the Baptist, preaching in the wilderness of Judaea, And saying, Repent ye: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand. For this is he that was spoken of by the prophet Isaiah, saying, The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight. Matthew 3:1-3

What does it mean to “prepare ye the way of the Lord”? It means to FOLLOW Yeshua and His Torah!

In this session, Eddie looks at this question: Why is “mixed worship” accepted? Why is the “Elijah message” rejected?

Reason #1:Religious traditions and customs that handed down over the generations, those customs and traditions are so strong that people want to hold onto them.

Reason #2:Not fully understanding who Yeshua is.

Reason #3: The spirit of Jezebel, which is the spirit of rebellion.

Many in mainstream Christianity have been given the message that Yeshua did away with the Law, the Torah and that we are now under the “age of grace”. They don’t realize that Yeshua is the Lawgiver: He is the one who gave us the Torah at Mt Sinai. Yeshua said:

“If you love me, keep my commands.” John 14:15.

The Elijah message is this: Repent and turn to keeping the Torah of Yeshua. Come OUT of “mixed worship” = Baal worship!

So, sometimes the Elijah message is rejected out of IGNORANCE (reason #1 and 2). Once truth is presented, if a person loves truth and seeks truth, they may choose to turn to following Yeshua’s Torah because they love Him and want to keep His commands.

Reason #3 is based on intentional willful rebellion. The spirit of Jezebel opposes the Elijah message. The spirit of Jezebel is deeply involved in mixed worship. The spirit of Jezebel says “Don’t follow Torah.” The spirit of Jezebel says, “No, we are not under the law!”

The Elijah message prepares the people for the end of the exile of the 12 tribes. It is a message of preparing for the second coming of Messiah, the forsaking and turning away from “mixed worship”. This prepares us for the ingathering of the exiles. Elijah will come and announce to the house of Jacob that the exile is OVER.

They feared the LORD….AND served their own gods, after the manner of the nations whom they carried away from thence. And the covenant that I have made with you ye shall not forget; neither shall ye fear other gods. But the LORD your God ye shall fear; and he shall deliver you out of the hand of all your enemies. Howbeit they did not hearken, but they did after their former manner. So these nations feared the LORD……AND served their graven images, both their children, and their children's children: as did their fathers, so do they unto this day. 2 Kings 17: 33, 38-41

This is the problem that Elijah comes to confront before King Ahab. It was MIXED worship. They feared the Lord but mixing with the customs, the way and the practices of the people around them. He came to say, “You are not worshipping the Lord your God the way He instructed you to do, based on the Torah given at Mt Sinai.

Elijah’s primary message and ministry is to call God’s people back to the Torah of Moses:

REMEMBER the TORAH of Moses my servant, which I commanded unto him in Horeb for all Israel, with the statutes and judgments. Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the LORD. Malachi 4:4-5

What does Baal worship involve? Baal worship is a golden calf or “mixed” worship system. Baal worship involves “sun” worship. It is the “mixture” of worship, to worship the God of Israel AND to worship the “sun”, Baal and Ashtoreth. There are those who gather on Sunday who love Jesus (Yeshua), and who believe He is the Messiah, but they have brought in the customs and the practices of the nations into their Sunday worship.

Christmas (Asherah trees), Easter (Ishtar/Asherah) and meeting on “sun” day instead of Sabbath are all elements of Baal and Ashtoreth worship. It is “mixed worship”.

This is the message and ministry of Elijah today. To call God’s people to “come OUT of her my people” and to return to following Yeshua and HIS Holy Torah by the Holy Spirit.

Baal worship = MIXED worship system.

Messiah is not coming for a bride that is involved in MIXED worship. He is coming for a bride who worships Him in SPIRIT and in TRUTH and who loves Yeshua and follows HIS Torah!

Let’s summarize what we have covered so far:

*Yeshua, Torah and Messiah are ONE

*When Yeshua made a covenant with Abraham, He is described as being a “smoking furnace” (Gen. 15:17).

*Yeshua at Mt Sinai is described as being a “smoking furnace” (Exodus 19:18)

*The church, the called out assembly, was born at Mt Sinai

*The church, the redeemed house of Jacob was REBORN at Acts 2 with the outpouring of the Holy Spirit

*When Yeshua died on the tree, a new covenant was made with the house of Judah and the house of Israel (Jer. 31:31-33).

*The house of Judah and the house of Israel can be “grafted in” to the olive tree of Israel through the new covenant made by Yeshua through the shedding of His blood on the tree.

*Yeshua is: the Holy one of Israel, the King of Israel, the Redeemer of Israel, the Savior of Israel, and He is Yahweh of Hosts.

*The fiery Torah was issued from the “right hand” of the Father at Mt Sinai. “Right hand” is code for Yeshua (Deuteronomy 33:1-3)

*Yeshua is the Lawgiver (Isaiah 33:22)

*Yeshua is Yahweh our Elohim (Luke 4:8)

*Yeshua is the rock that was with His people in the wilderness (1 Cor. 10:1-4)

*We love him by keeping His commands (John 14:15)

We see a green olive tree in Jeremiah 11. This tree represents the whole house of Israel. There are two kinds of branches, one representing the House of Judah and the other representing the House of Israel. The branches are BROKEN:

The LORD called your name,

Green Olive Tree, Lovely and of Good Fruit.

With the noise of a great tumult

He has kindled fire on it,And its branches are broken.

For the LORD of hosts, who planted you, has pronounced doom against you for the evil of the house of Israel and of the house of Judah, which they have done against themselves to provoke Me to anger in offering incense to Baal.” Jeremiah 11: 16-17

Yeshua is going to provide a way for these broken branches to be restored. They will be grafted in through a renewed covenant, through the shedding of His blood on the tree. (Jeremiah 31:31-33)

The wild branches (representing Northern kingdom/Ephraim) are grafted into the olive tree:

And if some of the branches be broken off, and you, being a WILD OLIVE TREE, were grafted in among them, and with them partake of the root and fatness of the olive tree. Romans 11:17

The natural branches (representing Southern kingdom/Judah) are ALSO grafted into the olive tree:

For if thou were cut out of the olive tree which is wild by nature, and wert grafted contrary to nature into a good olive tree: how much more shall these, which be the NATURAL BRANCHES, be grafted into their own olive tree? Romans 11:24

This is a picture of the restoration and the reuniting of the divided kingdom of Israel into the United kingdom of Israel, the redeemed house of Jacob, the name of the covenant family that Yeshua will rule and reign with:

And he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end. Luke 1:33

And as he sat upon the Mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world? Matthew 24:3

We know that we are living now in the end of days because the signs are all around us. Presently, much of the nation of Israel is living in exile for breaking the Torah. Presently, the nations of the world rule over them.

What is the transition point when we have the fall of the nations and the kingdom of Israel, the “whole house of Israel” being restored? We call that time the tribulation period. Some of the trigger events that happen during the tribulation period:

*the land of Israel gets divided (Joel 3:1-3)

*the city of Jerusalem is divided (Zech 14:1-3)

*the establishment of a Palestinian state

These are some of the signs that we are coming into the end of days. Another sign that we are coming into the end of days is the raising up of the ministry and message of Elijah. What is the Elijah message? What is his ministry? What does he have to say in the end of days before the second coming of Messiah? That is what we are going to look at in this teaching series.

Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen. Matthew 28: 19-20

In the great commission that Yeshua spoke to his disciples we see that Paul picks up this calling and he preaches and proclaims Yeshua as the Messiah, repentance of sins, returning to the Torah, and Messiah coming back to gather and unite the 12 tribes of Israel.

In the upper room, the disciples ask Yeshua a burning question:

When they therefore were come together, they asked of him, saying, “Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel? Acts 1:6

In other words, they were asking Yeshua, “Will you NOW unite Northern and Southern kingdom and restore it as it was under King David, when we were ONE kingdom with YOU as our King?”

And Yeshua answers their question:

It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power. But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth. Acts :7-8

Yeshua is not telling WHEN He is going to reunite them. But He DOES tell them that they will receive power. Power to do WHAT? To proclaim that Yeshua has died on the tree so that BOTH Northern and Southern kingdom can come back into a renewed covenant with Him through the shedding of His blood on the tree and that, in His second coming, He will be gathering and uniting all 12 tribes and bringing them back to Israel!

There is a prophecy that fishermen would be sent to the exiles of Israel and they would “fish” for them.

Therefore, behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that it shall no more be said, The LORD liveth, that brought up the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt; But, The LORD liveth, that brought up the children of Israel from the land of the north, and from all the lands whither he had driven them: and I will bring them again into their land that I gave unto their fathers. Behold, I will send for many fishers, saith the LORD, and they shall fish them; and after will I send for many hunters, and they shall hunt them from every mountain, and from every hill, and out of the holes of the rocks. Jeremiah 16:14-16

Yeshua goes to the Galilee area to minister to the people there because this is a prophetic declaration that He is going to restore the exiles of Israel back into the covenant. He is going to send his disciples out as fishermen to seek after the scattered exiles of Israel and bring them back into the renewed covenant. In His first coming, by His dying on the tree, the scattered exiles of Israel can be restored into the covenant through his shed blood.

A fundamental role, task and function of Messiah Yeshua is this: in his second coming, Yeshua will be gathering and reuniting the 12 tribes of Israel and leading them back to Israel.

And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold, and one shepherd. I will feed them in a good pasture, and upon the high mountains of Israel shall their fold be: there shall they lie in a good fold, and in a fat pasture shall they feed upon the mountains of Israel. John 10: 15-16

He died at his first coming so the exiles of Israel could be redeemed and restored back into the covenant of the God of Israel, be forgiven of their sins, and receive His indwelling Holy Spirit. The task of physically gathering and uniting of the 12 tribes of Israel will be accomplished at His second coming.

The book of Hosea is written to the Northern Kingdom and it addresses their sin and how the God of Israel is going to deal with them. Their sin of golden calf worship/spiritual idolatry is likened unto spiritual adultery. Hosea is instructed by the God of Israel to take for himself a wife of whoredoms, Gomer. She is a prophetic picture of the Northern Kingdom.

They have three children, Jezreel, Lo Ruhamah, and Lo Ammi. The names of these three children speak to the judgments that God will be making on the House of Israel.

Jezreel = God will sow, God will scatter (Hosea 1:4)

Lo Ruhamah = No mercy (Hosea 1:6)

Lo Ammi = Not my people (Hosea 1:8-9)

God will cause the House of Israel, the Northern kingdom to go into exile and to be scattered to all the nations of the earth. They will be assimilated, and they will forget who they are. God will show “no mercy” to them and they will no longer be considered “His people”. Yet, there is hope. The God of Israel promises the following:

Yet the number of the children of Israel shall be as the sand of the sea, which cannot be measured nor numbered; and it shall come to pass, that in the place where it was said unto them, Ye are not my people, there it shall be said unto them, Ye are the sons of the living God. Hosea 1: 10

It is through the judgment brought upon the Northern kingdom is the way that the covenant promise made to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob will be fulfilled. It was promised to Abraham that his seed would be more numerous than all the stars in the sky. As the Northern kingdom is scattered to all the nations of the earth, as they “wake up from their slumber”, remember who they are, and as they repent and return to the God of Israel and to His Torah, the very judgment of exile becomes the means by which God brings to pass the promise made to Abraham, that His seed would be more numerous than all the stars in the sky.
