On the air from 1938-49... Captain Jim "Red" Albright was a WW I U.S. Army Pilot. His Captain Midnight code name was given to him be a general who sent him on a high-risk mission from which he returned at the stroke of midnight. After Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7, 1941, the show switched plots to include the Secret Squadron's efforts to help win WW II. Millions of listeners, including many adults... a favorite series with WW II US Army Air Force... show offered decoders, rings, badges, telescopes and sent out secret messages to be decoded by listeners... often messages had previews about the next day's episode. Ernest Chappell was the main character for Quiet Please. The cast was usually one or two other people. Not many sound effects. Music was gentle organ or piano. The results however were stunning in terms of the dramatic impact this series by Wyllis Cooper had on listening audience and critics. Cooper also wrote for the series "Lights Out"

The actors in this series are so good that no one sounds like they are acting at all... they sound like regular people caught up in very unusual and sometimes terrifying situations. One of the most popular comedy duos ever... George Burns and his wife, Gracie Allen. They worked together successfully as a comedy team in vaudeville, film, radio, and television for over 40 years. The radio show was inducted into the National Radio Hall of Fame in 1994. Their TV show earned 11 Emmy Award nominations and was ranked 56th out of the top 100 greatest shows on television. They were inducted into the Television Hall of Fame in 1988. Their radio careers began on the BBC in 1929... on CBS from 1932-37. And back and forth from CBS to NBC until May 1950. Harry Lime (Orson Welles) is off on another adventure in "Rogues Holiday". This syndicated radio series was produced by British radio producer, Harry Alan Towers and his company "Towers of London" during 1951-52. Orson Welles reprises the role of Harry Lime in this series of adventures that preceded the story told in "The Third Man" . The series was syndicated internationally and was thought of as a BBC production, though it was actually produced and distributed independently by Towers of London. On this program, Judy prepares herself to appear on a radio quiz show. Her first move is to visit the local bookstore where she intends to stock up on books that will help make her smart! So she invests in an encyclopedia... remember this was many years before Google... and people had to use things called "reference books" too find information.

Hosted or Narrated by Ken Nordine, Incredible but True was a radio drama that told stories of phenomena that was never explained...but supposedly true. The stories were mysterious and the use of organ music and sound effects added to the sense of mystery and the unknown. The program was produced by the Mutual Radio Network as a syndicated program from 1950-51 and was heard as 15 minute and 3 minute segments. The story on this track is of the 3 minute variety and is entitled "The Dead Man's Mirror"... Incredible, but True!
