Claudia is a continuing story about the ups and downs of being a newlywed. The show was also known as “Claudia and David”. Topics include dealing with in-laws, burning dinner, losing socks, buying really big dogs, and all the little moments that make up a life together. Originally originating as a script on The Kate Smith Show in 1941 it was expanded into a full summer series a month later.
The original roles were played by Patricia Ryan and by Richard Kollmar Who played Claudia and David Naughton
Due to the popularity of these films, In 1947, Coca-Cola decided to sponsor a 15 minute weekday show Staring Kathryn Bard and Paul Crabtree, as Claudia and David Naughton, with Joe King as the announcer. In the series you will also meet Claudia’s mother, Mrs. Brown, played by Peggy Allenby,, neighbor Bertha, building supervisor Fritz, David’s co-worker Roger and his brother Hartley.
Claudia is a lighthearted soap with relatable characters doing what regular people were doing. David is a WWII veteran trying to have a good life with his new wife and Claudia, although sometimes silly, is a loving wife. The show offers an excellent glimpse of a realistic 1940s American household.
