Janet Ford Phifer, 83, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday morning, April 7, 2024. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul B. The Virginia Department of Transportation is advising motorists that one lane will be closed on I-64 eastbound between West Broad Street and North Parham Road April 17 and/or 18. April is Child Abuse Prevention Month, and the team at Henrico CASA is raising awareness about the work they do in hopes of attracting more volunteers. The organization's fourth annual "Home for Good" fundraising and awareness event kicks off Friday. Right now, there are seven one-of-a-kind luxury playhouses that are on display at Short Pump Town Center and Libbie Mill Library. The houses have been designed and built by local professionals to reflect the theme "Change a Child's Story". A brother and sister have been arrested and charged in connection to a fire that damaged a Lakeside restaurant in February. Jordan Castaneda, 37, and Shelby Castaneda, 32, were each charged with burning or destroying any other building or structure and conspiracy to commit felony arson. They are being held without bond, according to the Henrico County Fire Marshal's Office. Sportable will host the 2024 National Wheelchair Basketball Association Adult Division Wheelchair Basketball National Championships April 12-14 at the Henrico Sports and Events Center in Glen Allen. Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden will host The Big Bloom, a festive garden party Friday, April 12 beginning at 6 p.m., to celebrate spring. A Prince George man is wanted by Henrico Police for construction fraud, and police believe there may be more victims. Charles Edwards Bartley, 46, owned and operated a pool company called Dynasty Pools Inc. and entered into a contract with victims in 2021 for work that was supposed to be completed by October 2023 but instead never was completed. Keep Virginia Beautiful is currently accepting applications for its annual Green Grants program, which aims to fund projects that help keep Virginia beautiful. Thirty grant awards will be announced in June, one day at a time throughout the month. The application period is open through April 30. Proposals may be submitted for any of four categories: litter prevention, cigarette litter prevention, community beautification, and recycling. Past projects funded by the Keep Virginia Beautiful organization include the installation of cigarette butt receptacles outside of municipal buildings and restaurants, as well as the purchase of litter cleanup supplies.
