Atlantic Union Bank has announced that it is taking applications from nonprofits and community organizations that are seeking funding to pay interns. About 25% of Virginia homes have high levels of radon, according to the American Lung Association's annual "State of Lung Cancer" report, and the organization is encouraging state residents to have their homes tested for the odorless, tasteless, radioactive gas. Henrico County, with the nonprofit Henrico Education Foundation and a host of donors, has established a scholarship fund to honor former longtime supervisors Frank Thornton and Pat O’Bannon, who concluded 28 years of service when their terms ended Dec. 31. A shooting at an apartment complex in the Lakeside area Jan. 1 just before midnight left one woman dead and another fighting for her life. It happened in the 2000 block of Montbrook Lane, in the Overlook at Brook Run apartment complex. Henrico Police responded to an apartment there after reports of a burglary.
