On Election Day, people are expected to do their civic duty and vote. Some citizens have a harder time voting than others because of the lack of accessibility at various polling stations. Approximately 13% of people surveyed by the U.S. Census reported illness or disability kept them from voting in the 2020 presidential election. Michael Hopkins was one of the many dog walkers in Deep Run Park on an unusually warm afternoon in late October. As the fall foliage fell gently around the park’s pond and gazebo, the Three Chopt District resident talked about the county’s pedestrian paths while his dog relentlessly tried to inch itself closer to a couple sitting at a nearby picnic table. Two western Henrico office buildings have a new owner. Cushman & Wakefield | Thalhimer’s Capital Markets Group has represented the seller in the sale of Westerre I and II in Henrico County. Seminole Trail Properties, of Charlottesville, purchased Westerre I and II (office buildings on Westerre Parkway not far from Innsbrook that total about 163,00 square feet of Class-A office space) on Oct. 16. Westerre I is 98.5% occupied, and Westerre II is 84% occupied. The sale price was not immediately disclosed. Seeing an increase in medical emergency calls because of the increase in people working out, Henrico County has started installing a lifesaving tool at each public park across the county. This tool is an automatic external defibrillator or AED, which is used to treat cardiac emergencies. Henrico is in the process of installing AEDs outdoors at various parks and recreation areas with an understanding that each second counts when someone is having a medical emergency. Henrico Police officials are investigating break-ins at two Buddhist temples in Henrico County earlier this week. The incidents happened Oct. 30 at 1:20 p.m. at the Vien Giac Buddhist Temple in the 2200 block of Mountain Road in Glen Allen and about five hours later at another temple (the Lumbini Buddhist Meditation Center) in the 2400 block of Old Hanover Road in Sandston. In both cases, the perpetrators entered by kicking in a back door. In the first incident, three men reportedly did so but fled the property without taking anything. Lawmakers elected to office next week will likely take up firearm legislation in the next General Assembly session. Democrats rate gun policy as the No. 2 top issue, behind abortion, according to a mid-October Christopher Newport University survey of likely voters. Independents rank gun policy as the fourth top issue of concern.
