Bipartisan backers of a proposal to create a Virginia Prescription Drug Affordability Board vowed Tuesday to reintroduce legislation during the 2024 General Assembly session, saying they believe the new legislature will be more favorable to the idea than prior ones that struck it down. The Virginia Mortgage Relief Program, administered by Virginia Housing, has announced that the program will close to new applicants this fall. Applications for Virginia residents will no longer be accepted after Oct. 1.  Virginia's federal funding is limited, but VMRP will continue to operate until the program reaches full disbursement of the funds received from the American Rescue Plan Act and the U.S Department of Treasury.  Homeowners financially affected by the COVID-19 pandemic who may benefit from this assistance are encouraged to apply as soon as possible. Henrico supervisors approved the introduction of an ordinance July 25 that would establish the Virginia Center Commons Special Service District and provide public streetlights to that area. Four years after Virginia transitioned its Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control into an authority in an effort to make the state agency run more like a business, Gov. Henrico County Public Schools soon will begin using the ParentSquare app to send alerts and information to parents and to allow parents and teachers to message each other directly. Both parents and teachers can download the school-home communication platform now on their Android or iPhone.
