The Henrico Board of Supervisors voted unanimously June 27 to allow the possibility of alcohol consumption at all county parks and recreation facilities during public events, while also approving plans to crack down on excessive noise at Henrico parks. Beginning this weekend, drivers need to slow down and move over, if possible, for all stationary vehicles on Virginia’s roadside that are displaying hazard lights, warning signs, or flares. AAA proposed and supported the extension of the Move Over law that currently protects drivers of police and emergency vehicles and others working along Virginia roads displaying red, blue or amber flashing lights.  The common-sense change to the law drew wide bipartisan support in the General Assembly and goes into effect July 1. Cases of elder abuse in Henrico have been on the rise in the last decade, but statewide efforts to stop them have recently increased. On June 16, Virginia organizations commemorated World Elder Abuse Awareness Day statewide for the first time. The Virginia Center on Aging and Virginia Commonwealth University Health Sciences held and an online training event to inform Virginia professionals about how to help elders access resources and how to identify, investigate and pursue justice for elders when there are indicators of abuse.
