In the language of state agencies, it’s “loss of custody.” In the vernacular of medical staff, it’s being “street-ed.” Both refer to when an emergency medical department is unable to stop a patient deemed a threat to themselves or others from leaving the facility before receiving proper treatment. Henrico County Public Schools and the Virginia Department of Health’s Richmond and Henrico Health Districts will hold four free walk-in vaccination clinics in June and July. HCPS middle and high school students can get free vaccinations at the clinics and no reservation is needed. Virginia requires students to be immunized against various illnesses for enrollment for the 2023-24 school year. Depending upon their age and grade, students can visit the clinics to get vaccinated for tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis, HPV and meningococcal virus. Henrico Citizen Managing Editor Patty Kruszewski has won a third-place award in the 2023 National Federation of Press Women’s communications contest for an education-themed article she wrote in 2022. Henrico Court Appointed Special Advocates welcome four new advocates to its ranks during a ceremony June 22. Retired Judge Stuart L. Some Henrico residents may have an elevated cancer risk because of chemical emissions from a commercial sterilization facility in the county, the Environmental Protection Agency reported recently. That risk stems from the chemical ethylene oxide, or EtO, which is used by Sterilization Services of Virginia at 5674 Eastport Boulevard (near the Laburnum Avenue-Charles City Road intersection) to sterilize medical equipment.
