The Safe Space Market RVA is offering a weekly opportunity for people to support and promote the visibility of the region’s Black, queer, trans, indigenous, and other underrepresented makers, artists, and small business owners. The market is held each Friday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Lakeside Farmers’ Market, 6110 Lakeside Avenue. The effort was created and organized by a group working to help the small businesses owned by marginalized groups and others, many of whom have struggled because of the pandemic. Thirteen new cases of COVID-19 involving people in Henrico’s public schools have been reported in the past five days, prompting 40 people to enter quarantine. None of the cases involved transmission in school, according to the school system. In total, 88 COVID cases involving people in the county’s schools since they began a staggered reopening Feb. 22 have resulted in 759 people entering quarantine. Patty Kruszewski, the managing editor of the Henrico Citizen and a safe-driving activist, has received Virginia Professional Communicators’ 2021 Communicator of Achievement Award. The popular Innsbrook after Hours concert series, a staple of the Glen Allen business and residential community for more than two decades, is leaving for Caroline County. Henrico County Public Schools will distribute five days of free school meals to families on April 7, the Wednesday during Spring Break, at eight select locations. The curbside service is open to all families and will be open from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Neighborhood bus-stop distribution will not occur that day, however. During the weekend, Henrico County continued to report slightly higher counts of COVID-19 cases – a total of 144, which, coupled with the 86 new cases reported Monday, increased Henrico’s seven-day moving average of new daily cases to 75. Henrico reported no new virus-related hospitalizations or deaths Monday, according to VDH data. The 14-year-old suspect charged with second-degree murder in the shooting death of 13-year-old Quioccasin Middle School student Lucia Bremer Friday was arraigned Monday in Henrico Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court, where Chief Judge Margaret Deglau denied him bond.
