A second Krispy Kreme Doughnuts may soon be coming to Henrico County. The company wants to build a store near Tom Leonard’s Farmer’s Market in Short Pump, and the Henrico Board of Supervisors Tuesday will consider its request to do so. The 4,037-square-foot location is planned in the Brookhollow Shopping Center, on the north side of West Broad Street just west of Tom Leonard’s. The shopping center contains a Kohl’s department store, a Sonic fast food location and other retailers. The Henrico Economic Development Authority is working with the Virginia Department of Small Business and Supplier Diversity and Henrico’s supplier relations manager, Jeff Conley, to expand its supplier diversity policies and create more opportunities for small, women-owned and minority-owned (or SWaM) businesses. Conley created a two-pronged approach for the EDA to carry out its inclusivity efforts. A new way for Metro Richmond senior citizens to be vaccinated against COVID-19 arrives this week, though like the existing method, it will be able to serve only a fraction of the people who want to be inoculated.   Virginia lawmakers hoped to advance a bill that would eliminate felony drug possession charges and shift a focus to treatment, not punishment, of substance abuse. The measure had bipartisan support and backing from many commonwealth attorneys’ and lawyers around the state, but it died in a House subcommittee. Anyone found in possession of controlled substances would face misdemeanor charges under House Bill 2303 introduced by Del. Sally Hudson, D-Charlottesville. Henrico Police have arrested and charged a 24-year-old Amelia man with sexual battery in connection with two incidents that occurred in October. Zachary Ryan Martin is being held without bond at the Henrico County jail. He was identified as a suspect in the cases, which occurred Oct. 27 at two local grocery stores, through a collaborative effort between Henrico and Chesterfield Police. Police have not revealed what actions Martin is alleged to have committed, only describing him as having acted suspiciously with two women in two separate grocery stores that night. Henrico’s nine high schools are seeking the public’s help so that they can broadcast their fall sporting events (which will be played in the spring) through live streams on YouTube. In order to livestream events on the platform, a page must have at least 1,000 subscribers. Livestreaming would begin for some games for the fall sports season when action begins Feb. 22. Henrico County reported 81 new cases of COVID-19 on Monday – a sharp drop from the 140 new cases the day before and the lowest single-day total in the county since Dec. 3, according to the Virginia Department of Health. The seven-day average number of new daily reported cases in the county is 143. Monday's total was the latest in a series of fluctuating daily counts, ranging from 81 to 233 since Thursday.
