In this episode of the Her Shift Podcast, Anna dives deep into the power of words and the life-changing wisdom of The Four Agreements—focusing on the agreement: “Don’t take anything personally.” We explore how both criticism and compliments are reflections of other people’s perspectives, not our truth, and why detaching from both is a radical act of self-worth—especially for women healing from trauma, PMDD, and people-pleasing.
Anna shares personal stories of recovering from narcissistic abuse and how the words we hear—and repeat to ourselves—shape our beliefs, nervous system, and self-image. We talk about how inherited shame, family expectations, and the pressure to be “nice” or “small” can leave us internalizing wounds that aren’t ours. You’ll learn why it’s so hard to speak kindly to yourself, how to recognize the “spells” cast by others’ words, and practical ways to rewrite your inner narrative with compassion and truth.
Whether you’re navigating PMDD, healing from toxic relationships, or simply want to break free from old stories, this episode offers gentle, trauma-informed guidance and real talk. Anna invites you to reflect on the sentences that shaped you—and to reclaim your voice, your desires, and your self-worth.
Key Topics:
Reflection Prompt:
What’s one sentence you heard growing up that still haunts your self-image? What truth could you replace it with today?

In this soul-deep episode, I open up about how losing my gran at 12 triggered a massive shift in my nervous system — and how that one event quietly rewired my brain, blocked my ability to learn, and forced me into survival mode for decades. We’re diving into the sneaky ways trauma suppresses our natural curiosity, our creative flow, and the joy that makes life feel worth living.
If you've ever found yourself doom-scrolling instead of creating, bingeing podcasts just to numb out, or feeling like your brain used to work better “before life happened,” this one’s for you. I also share a powerful tool (viacharacter.org) that helped me rediscover my biggest superpower: my love of learning — and how I’m now rebuilding a life that supports it.
This isn’t about hustle. It’s about healing through joy, creativity, curiosity, and self-trust. Your inner golden goose is still in there, babe — let’s revive her.
Listeners Will Learn:
• How trauma, especially childhood grief, can shut down the brain’s learning and creative systems
• What survival mode actually looks like in everyday life (hint: overthinking, multitasking, not feeling safe to rest or play)
• Why creative flow isn’t optional — it’s a nervous system need
• How to identify and nurture your top character strength using the VIA Character test
• The moment I realised my obsession with learning wasn’t random — it was the key to my healing
• A reframe on productivity: you don’t need to do more — you need to feel safe enough to be

In this solo episode, I’m talking about the Golden Goose Theory — and how so many of us are slowly burning ourselves out trying to do it all, without realising we’re draining the very energy that makes us powerful, creative, and alive.
I share what helps me feel human (and happy), even in the depths of depression — including the power of a good haircut, a toffee latte, someone else washing my bloody car, and yes, an orgasm (or three). This episode is a love letter to your needs, not just your responsibilities.
Inside:
✨ Why constantly doing everything is killing your spark — not proving your worth
✨ How small pleasures and support systems genuinely support your mental health
✨ What I really want for myself at home, in my work, and in my relationships
✨ The radical idea that maybe, just maybe, you don’t have to earn rest or pleasure
✨ Why it’s time to stop waiting for life to feel better, and start creating it now
This episode is for the woman who’s exhausted but still trying. For the one who’s wondering why she feels disconnected, flat, and resentful — and what it would look like to finally back herself enough to get the help she needs.
Let’s stop killing the golden goose. Let’s start nourishing her.

Her Worth is a podcast about her worth, wealth, money, freedom, and everything women were never taught.
Not a finance podcast. A freedom podcast. Money comes up constantly,…
Each week, Anna Pearce-Roberts takes one thing women are told not to worry about — the pension, the credit score, the mental load, the career break, the fresh start — names it plainly, strips out the jargon, and gives you the real version. Plain English. Real stories. From a woman who has lived most of it.
Anna is 45, from the North East of England, and has built businesses, run a household and learned almost all of it the expensive way. She has also spent years talking openly about PMDD, perimenopause and trauma recovery, and those episodes are all still here — because the same thread runs through every one of them. What happens to a woman nobody handed the manual to.
Because financial freedom and personal freedom are the same conversation. Because a woman who knows exactly where she stands can stay or go on her own terms. And because understanding the stuff nobody taught you isn't just useful. It's power.
Your self-worth has nothing to do with the size of your bank account. But let's be overflowing in both.
New episodes weekly. The tools, the free folder and the weekly letter are all at hershift.com.
Don't trust the process. Fluffing understand it.
