  • Ashley Chance, Artemis Sportswoman

Ashley and I sat down to have an important conversation about hunter retention. The female hunter percentages are so high for entering into our community. Sadly though the amount of women who stay in hunting more than a year are much much lower. So what is the reason? COMMUNITY! Ashley and I chatted about how important it is to have community for hunters, men and women. There are so many groups that are great about introducing people into hunting and fishing but how about the long haul? Artemis is a program that isn't about mentorship it is about retention! It is about having someone to walk into public land and hunt, go with on hunts throughout the year, learn things together and grow together as hunters and anglers. Artemis has grown in the western part of the US but we want to expand further East! How can you get involved? Listen in and be a part of this community. Find local chapters to grow with and learn from! Thank you so much Ashley for such a great convo! you can find more information at Artemis.nwf.org!

  • Edie, The Bass Queen

I had the honor of talking with Edie, The Bass Queen. We were able to bring to the table how her love for fishing as a kid resurfaced just recently and has grown into fishing in tournaments. As an angler that finds both excitement in tourney fishing and solo fishing that recharges her soul, she has the best of both worlds at her fingertips. We get into how being in the outdoors grounds us. Dealing with anxiousness around new things and stepping out of comfort zones is eased by being surrounded by nature. We both feel that ease and respect the need for it. We do get to process those feelings and grow from them, but sometimes the life we have lived has long lasting effects on how we continue to live life. Join this conversation.  Listen in. I believe this is something we all can relate to.

  • Doug Duren of Wisconsin...Land Owner, Manager and Conservationist

You might have heard or seen Doug on a few MeatEater podcasts alongside Steve Rinella and on the Back40 episodes with Mark Kenyon. Joe Rogan also has had a great conversation with Doug. You might have heard Doug speak so passionately about land management and ethical responsibility. Doug actually has come alongside some of my very own West TN landowners to talk about CWD.

Today, Doug Duren joins me for a heavy conversation about CWD and our responsibility as "land owners" to the holding at bay the spread of this disease within our herds. We talk numbers, science, awesome things that in the works to make it easier to dispose of carcasses that are infected...dumpster programs... and being a part of the testing process. We talk about what it is like from a land owner perspective of inviting others on your property to hunt and help with managing numbers to the hunters who are helping landowners with management to the public land hunters. How are apps like OnX joining the fight?

We are all fighting CWD in one way or another; either to actively fight in the middle of it or fight to keep it at bay! Join us for this conversation and let us know how you and your state are involved in keeping CWD from eradicating your deer and elk herds.

  • Kyla Arial

Kyla took some time to have a conversation about how she fell in love with archery and with being outdoors hunting. There is a completed circle to it when you start with building your strength in not only a bow but in handling all changes and repairs to your own equipment, moving things over to make things work and also how important it is not to rush any of those processes. How rushing the process of new hunters harvesting can actually be harmful. Each person responds differently to choosing to harvest an animal. Giving a hunter time to figure it out is something we should give room for. Listen to Kyla's story behind her first harvest this year and how leaving room for processing those feelings was extremely respectful and selfless.

Hailey sat down and had a conversation with me today about her recent mule deer hunt in Idaho. We talk about her foundation in hunting and where the passion has come from, her heart for the authentic and ethical hunting, how she has handled the past few days of scrutiny. Hailey gets to tell her story here. We were able to talk about how we as a hunting community should not jump to assumptions before doing our own research. We talk about the awesome support that she has received. Listen in and give her your respect. She deserves it! We all do.

  • Anna V...Bird Dog Lover and Voice of the Few

This podcast is full of the most Southern drawl and grannie loving conversation. You are going to hear everything from the strong history of the women in our family to the strong hell no to the box society wants to put us in. Anna is a part of a very small community of female bird hunters and it is a breath of fresh air to hear her vision of importance in it. When you are in such a small percentage it is hard to find mentors that you can lean on, but Anna is one to learn from. She isn't just "the hat lady", even though she wears the heck out of them! Listen in as we laugh and chat like two awesome friends who have just met for the first time.
