In this episode, Max digs deep to share his personal history with mental illness and what prevented him from a tragic end to his life that was just starting. Max explores his history with anxiety and depression, which had been either repressed or forgotten until resurfacing in college. After graduation, he did what his family and the world expected of him and went straight into the rat race. After giving his all, he was laid off after only a month. That’s when the dark thoughts took over, and he began considering suicide.
We all grow up with expectations from our mentors, parents, or community, but I encourage everyone to take a page out of Max's book and intentionally sit down with themselves to figure out what their core values are. Sometimes that means leaning into the expectations, but often it means forging your own way forward!
