Hey Riverside! Podcast 0108: Riverside Weekend series with Ralph Torres and Patrick Maloney. Friday, July 8th 2016. Wednesday at La Sierra University you can catch a free show with a Grammy winning trumpet player Curtis Taylor and across town at Fairmount Park is the weekly summer concert. The Riverside Profile format returns for a special 4th of July excursion with a Riversider who had a big role in exporting the look and attitude of 1980s surf culture to the rest of the world. Steve Nazar sits down with Ralph and Patrick to connect the dots from selling design services to Arlington businesses to creating the iconic Town and Country Surf characters featured on the t-shirts in so many of our '80s wardrobes. Steve also talks about his recent show in Hawaii and his contribution to a members' exhibit at Riverside Art Museum (you can see it this Thursday at Artswalk). It's no mistake that "Da Boys" are poised to return in a big way to greet the demand that still builds after 30+ years. Young artists' influence lists include Steve in the same column as his own heroes. Not too bad for a kid from Grant Elementary School who just wanted to draw!

The big spectacles will take place Monday night at Mt. Rubidoux and La Sierra Park, respectively. This may be the last year of city fireworks so be sure to make one more memory! ArtsWalk comes around Thursday with some great things to do for the whole family. Tonight Ralph and Pat are back on Sunnyside Drive for the Marketplace with talk and acoustic local music (including a full set from The Sedans). More this weekend: The RCC Dixon Planetarium lights up a summer series and you can do some in-person stargazing at The Canyon After Dark at the Ameal Moore Nature Center. If you don't yet have stars in your eyes, the California Citrus State Historic Park has an Urban Campfire night featuring astronomy. Movies and concerts continue in the parks (and Wednesday lunchtimes at City Hall - but we can't find the schedule). Get your Victorian fix at the Heritage House's Ice Cream Social and don't forget Old Brown Shoe at the Packinghouse Brewing Co. Weekend is GO!

There are great events going on both indoors and outdoors. Sneak in an early hike in Sycamore Canyon or wait until the evenings for movies and music in our parks. The Culver Center and the Riverside Art Museum have great air-conditioned attractions. The Fox welcomes the durable and enduring Joe Jackson for his very first concert in Riverside. Also: Pat and Ralph talk up the Magnolia Center Marketplace (you might see them there again tonight) and the new Habanero restaurant that has opened in the old Zacatecas building. Everything's here if you'll lend us your ear!
