Today on High On Healthy our host is joined by Cannabis Educator & Industry Consultant, Emma Chasen. Emma has a mission to educate people on the science behind cannabis so that they may take charge of their own healing. After graduating from Brown University in 2014 with a degree in Medicinal Plant Research, Emma went on to coordinate Clinical Oncology trials with the Brown University Oncology Research Group. When her supervisor refused a cannabis trial in favor of another expensive pharmaceutical drug, Emma quit and headed across the country to Portland, OR. She found her way to Farma, the popular Portland dispensary that takes a more scientific approach to cannabis; rejecting the Indica/Sativa binary and instead focusing on chemo types to determine effect. She began her career at Farma as a bud-tender and was quickly promoted to General Manager after only a few months. She oversaw the operations of the shop and continued to uphold the pillars of esteemed customer service and cannabis science education during the rocky regulatory transition from OHA to OLCC governance.

Today on High On Healthy Audrey is joined by Ryan Treacy, the founder and chief executive officer of C4 Laboratories. Ryan has dedicated his life to serving as a patient advocate and a perpetual student of cannabis science. After 15 years in executive management for two national restaurant chains, he decided to pursue his passion for cannabis and start C4 Laboratories to empower people with knowledge that helps them make more informed decisions. Since then, C4 has not only become one of the largest, most trusted testing facilities in Arizona, but also been at the forefront of cannabis research, education, and legislation. Under Ryan’s guidance, C4 led two research collaborations with major academic institutions and was one of the first cannabis laboratories in the country to have their findings published in a major peer-reviewed publication. Ryan is also a member of the Association of Commercial Cannabis Labs (ACCL), and is actively involved in Arizona legislation to implement mandatory testing and industry standards for label claims on all cannabis products. They speak about how it’s all too common to see testing labs alter their results or strategically pick and choose the data they share. How C4's patients are their priority, so they believe honesty is the best policy about the testing. Also why they believe data is only useful if you can understand and use it.

Today on High On Healthy Bethany is joined by Peggy Noonan, founder of Copia Infusions and Concentrates. Peggy knows a thing or two about marijuana. She was a drug runner between Mexico and the U.S., before earning her living as a dealer in Arizona. Both stints ended badly, with Noonan serving time in a Mexican jail and slapped with federal probation in Arizona. All that feels like ancient history, says Noonan, who’s among the thousands of “ganjapreneurs” in the burgeoning market for edible marijuana products. Noonan, who grew up in an affluent family on Central Park West in Manhattan, began smuggling marijuana into the U.S. from Mexico after graduating from Arizona State University in the late ’60s. The weed was supplied by “farmers coming down the mountains on donkeys with bales. They dive deep into her upbringing in the cannabis industry and how she went from a drug runner to a "ganjapreneur".

Shawngela was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan and soon after graduation, left to study at Purdue University in Indiana. Shawngela graduated with a major in Biology and a minor in Chemistry from Purdue in 1996. While in college, Shawngela joined the Army Reserve, where she served honorably for 16-years, for a short period as a parachute rigger and then as a paralegal. After graduating from Purdue, Shawngela worked as a Forensic Scientist in the DNA division of the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation (Ohio BCI). After leaving BCI, she went on to pursue a Master’s degree in an Educational field from Old Dominion University. She knew that teaching was her true passion as she had taught as an undergraduate and also at Ohio BCI. In 2003, she earned an MS in an educational field that allowed her to teach Human Anatomy and Physiology at the college-level, which she taught for over 6-years. In 2006, Shawngela started attending the Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine. She wanted to become a doctor to help other’s heal naturally. It was in naturopathic medical school that she discovered the law of attraction. Upon discovery, she soon began immersing herself in the teachings. The information that she found, confirmed for her, what she had believed her whole life. The mission at Seek Within You is to inspire and awaken you to your own innate power to heal your mind, body, and spirit using the principles of the Law of Attraction. She is still an advocate of the use of marijuana and also has discovered that it can become a roadblock to personal development and healing with a chronic issue. It becomes a band-aid that masks, instead of healing.
