In one of our favorite and most important shows of the year, Karen and Gerard Iglesia of Primetime 585 stop by to talk Section V hoops and Matt Trabold Week.
Before we bring in our guests, AJ recaps the crazy finish to last week's Eastridge/Batavia game (0:00-7:45).
Karen and Gerard join the show as we start our interview breaking down the Section V season so far. We discuss Franklin's return to prominence (7:45-16:40), the parity in Class AA boys (16:40-18:50), their favorite teams and players to watch (18:50-23:00), the elite talent in girls basketball this year (18:50-29:50), and what teams and brackets we're most looking forward to seeing come sectional time (29:50-38:50).
Then, we turn our attention to Matt Trabold Week, in memory of the late 13WHAM photojournalist who covered Section V sports with a passion. He died by suicide in 2021. Primetime honors and remembers his legacy with "It's Okay to Not Be Okay" Week, bringing mental health to the forthright. Topics include the pressure felt by kids today, why anyone can see a therapist, and how athletes are leading the charge in this movement. We also discuss Trabold and all he did for athletes around Section V (38:50-1:04:45).
AJ and Carl are back with another great episode as the Section V season is really heating up. First, they discuss both the cold weather and their weird schedules as well as Brighton/HF-L hockey's long-awaited win over Penfield (0:00-6:00). Pal-Mac girls basketball and Thomas boys basketball both knocked off undefeated teams this week, they earn our Team of the Week honors (6:00-16:20). The Titans did it in style, with Shawn Mason hitting a heave at the buzzer to end the third quarter. AJ breaks down the behind-the-scenes of getting that shot properly. Penfield and Newark boys basketball are both on the rise, they get some love as our Under the Radar teams (16:20-24:10). Finally, Penfield and Schroeder girls basketball, as well as Monroe and East boys, are set to give us some great games on Friday. We also open up the vault and share some great retro clips from a 1976 battle between Monroe and East (24:10-31:55).
With the Bills season behind us, it's time to turn all of your attention to Section V sports. Carl Jones and AJ Feldman are here to help. There's a new state tournament on the horizon, with girls wrestling hosting an invitational this weekend in Syracuse. We preview the weekend which also features the boys dual meet state championships (0:00-3:35). Our teams of the week are a pair of good ones, with a massive victory for the Franklin boys and an undefeated start for the Canisteo-Greenwood girls basketball teams (3:35-12:00). Geneva boys and Hilton girls basketball will both be contenders come Sectional time, they're our under the radar teams (12:00-19:00). Finally, Aquinas/Victor and Spartan Hockey/Pittsford are two matchups you won't want to miss in the coming days (19:00-23:55)
The winter sports season is heating up and the Huddle breaks down a memorable week of Section V sports. First off, AJ and Carl discuss last week's slate of Roundball Roundup and the hockey game at Blue Cross Arena between Churchville-Chili and Irondequoit (0:00-2:57). Next, the duo names the Avon and Victor boys basketball squads as their teams of the week. Josh Harter set a Section V record with 14 three-pointers in the Braves' 88-57 win over Mount Morris. The Blue Devils continue their blistering hot-start to the season at 11-0 (2:58-10:28). The York boys basketball team and the Lyons girls basketball squad were dubbed the under the radar teams (10:29-16:55). The pair end the show breaking down the Aquinas/Monroe boys basketball matchup and Victor/Canandaigua girls game for two games to watch this week (16:56-22:08).
The Huddle is back from a brief hiatus and we've got you covered with everything that's gone down in Section V action. First off, AJ and Carl react to an eventful week in WNY sports and Damar Hamlin's remarkable recovery (:00-4:10). The first NYSSWA hockey rankings are out, with three teams cracking the lists (4:10-9:45). Our first Roundball Roundup is in the books, we highlight some of the top games that we got a chance to see last week with Athena and Penfield earning statement wins (9:45-14:35). Finally, we look ahead to some of the top matchups on the upcoming schedule (14:35-20:20).
It's our final show of 2022, but we're not coasting into the new year as we've got a jam-packed show. First, Carl shares more about his story on Irondequoit's Chris Cardon hanging up the whistle after 37 seasons. It's the "Last Dance" in more ways than one (0:00:4:40). We've got our first state basketball rankings of the year. In boys basketball, Section V has few representatives in the larger divisions but Class C and D are loaded (4:40-17:00). In girls basketball, Class AA has a ton of heavy hitters in the top 15 while the rest of the classes still pack quite a punch (17:00-29:00). Finally, we share our excitement for the holiday season and AJ gears up for his dominoes showdown (29:00-33:25).

AJ recently went to Victor to do a feature on girls basketball head coach Ashley Zahn continuing her father's coaching legacy with the Blue Devils. He shares more about the story and a big event that's coming up for the school (0:00-8:25). We bring back our traditional segments, naming Aquinas boys basketball and Livonia girls basketball as our teams of the week. The Li'l Irish won a big rivalry game and Kylie Buckley silenced her critics (8:25-15:50). Monroe boys basketball and Churchville-Chili are starting to make some noise, they're our under the radar teams (15:50-21:30). Finally, East/Edison Tech and Fairport/Bishop Kearney are two matchups we definitely have our eyes on for the upcoming week (21:30-27:30).

AJ took a trip out to Franklin high school where there is a girls basketball team for the first time in a decade. He shares their story and highlights the maturity of the inexperienced squad (5:40-10:20). Waterloo and Schroeder girls basketball have both caught our attention early in the season, we highlight their success (10:20-16:45). Finally, a pair of boys basketball matchups are ones you're not going to want to miss (16:45-22:50).
December is upon us, Mariah Carey is blasting over department store speakers, and winter sports are here. AJ and Carl start the show by recapping the volleyball and football state playoffs with deep runs by Spencerport, Webster, Hilton, Batavia, and Pembroke (0:00-6:10). Then, we highlight some of our favorite moments from the fall season on the gridiron and the field hockey pitch (6:10-11:45). Finally, we spotlight some of the early storylines of the winter sports season in boys basketball and hockey. Aquinas, East, Schroeder, and Irondequoit are all making headlines(11:45-19:00).
It's one of our biggest shows of the year as we bring in Frank Wolf of WNY Athletics and Griffin Haas of WTEN to break down the regional round of the state football tournament.
Before we head to the states, we recap an eventful and rainy Section V Championship Weekend that saw some massive performances, repeat winners and first-time champs (0:00-11:05)
Frank Wolf joins the show to provide plenty of insight into the Section VI (Buffalo) teams that will be facing off against the Section V champs. These games were scheduled to be played Friday and Saturday at neutral sites, but will be played on Monday due to the snowstorm hitting Buffalo. We go through the busy slate in order with Class AA: McQuaid vs. Bennett (11:05-21:20), Class A: Hilton vs. Jamestown (21:20-28:10), Class B: Batavia vs. Iroquois (28:10-35:40), Class C: Attica vs. Lackawanna (35:40-42:00), and Class D Oakfield-Alabama/Elba vs. Randolph (42:00-50:50). Thanks to Section V getting at-large bids in the state tournament, we've got three more teams looking to take a long road to the Dome. Griffin Haas breaks down the matchups. Pittsford will play Christian Brothers Academy in Class AA (50:50-57:45) while Canandaigua will take on Nisakyuna in Class A (57:45-1:03:45) on Friday night. In Class D, Alexander will take on Cambridge/Salem (1:03:45-1:08:35). That game was scheduled to be played Friday night but after taping, it was moved to Sunday due to the weather.
Finally, it's not just about football as we recap the soccer state championships and preview our local volleyball teams looking to win it all this weekend (1:08:35-1:13:15).
