Jesus’ encounter with the Samaritan woman reveals the role that our personal stories can play in knowing God, knowing others, and knowing ourselves.

God folds the story of Boaz’s faithfulness to Ruth into his grand narrative to redeem all of humanity. In the same way, when we animate God’s unfailing, generous, reciprocal and faithful love, he folds the pages of our life story into his big story of redemption.

Naomi’s plan to release Ruth to a home where she will be well provided for highlights the reciprocal nature of God’s love, and transformational it is to receive God’s love from others.

As we continue on in our journey through the book of Ruth, we see God’s redemptive hand at work through a generous heart. When God’s people trust in and live out his abundance by being aware of the needs of others and doing something about it, we animate his generous heart and come under what he is making new.
