  • 31 - Tejiendo Medicina with Chio: Nurturing Healing Traditions for Wellness and Empowerment
    EPISODE 31

It’s time to expand the definition of “medicine”.
    Healed people, heal people.

    Welcome back, dear HMA listeners!

Join us as we immerse ourselves in the captivating world of curanderismo.

Curanderismo is a form of traditional medicine that has its roots in the indigenous cultures of Latin America and has been passed down from generation to generation. It combines elements of herbal medicine, spirituality and energy healing to treat a variety of physical and emotional ailments.

One of the most interesting aspects of curanderismo is its holistic approach. Healers believe that body, mind, and spirit are intrinsically connected, and that illness or imbalance in one of these aspects can affect the others. Therefore, treatment focuses on restoring balance and harmony at all levels.

In this episode, we had the pleasure of welcoming "Chio" as our special guest. Chio is the owner of Sacred Semillas, a nurturing space located in Oakland, CA. At Sacred Semillas, they offer various services such as Limpias (spiritual cleansings), Retreats, Forest Bathing, Self-Care Socials, and even a Mercadito (marketplace).

In the previous episode, some of you might recall that Lizette's mother underwent surgery at the end of June, and her recovery has been quite challenging. Despite the difficulties, Lizette and her family were able to bring her mother back home. It was during this time that Lizette's mother expressed a desire for a "limpia," a spiritual cleansing. Determined to find someone trustworthy, Lizette reached out and met Chio, who played an instrumental role in their journey.

To discover the rest of the story and gain insight into the world of curanderismo, we invite you to listen to this episode. We'd love to hear your own experiences with curanderismo or if you know someone who has benefited from its practices. Share your thoughts and stories with us.

Remember, while curanderismo offers valuable healing approaches, it's always essential to seek professional medical advice.

What does it mean to heal the inner Niña (Inner Child)?

Embarking on a journey of inner healing is a powerful and transformative experience. The inner Niña represents the pure, innocent, and authentic essence of who we are. Nurturing and healing this inner Niña can lead to profound personal growth and a renewed sense of joy and peace. Here are five important areas of focus that help reconnect with our inner child, our "Niña" within:

Embracing Inner Child: Healing the inner Niña begins with embracing our inner child. It's about acknowledging the experiences, emotions, and wounds that have shaped us. By reconnecting with our childlike curiosity, playfulness, and vulnerability, we open ourselves up to profound healing and self-discovery.

Self-Compassion: Practicing self-compassion is an essential part of healing the inner Niña. It involves offering love, understanding, and forgiveness to ourselves for past hurts and mistakes. Releasing Emotional Wounds: Healing the inner Niña requires acknowledging and releasing emotional wounds. This involves exploring past traumas, patterns, and limiting beliefs that may have held us back. By facing these wounds with courage and compassion, we can begin to heal and reclaim our inner power.

Inner Healing Practices: Various practices support healing the inner Niña. Mindfulness, meditation, journaling, and creative expression can serve as powerful tools for self-reflection, inner healing, and reconnecting with our true selves. Engaging in these practices regularly nurtures our inner Niña and fosters a deep sense of inner peace.

Cultivating Self-Care: Prioritizing self-care is vital on the journey of healing the inner Niña. This involves nurturing our physical, mental, and emotional well-being. Engaging in activities that bring us joy, setting healthy boundaries, and surrounding...

  • 28 - Breaking the Stigma: Understanding ADHD in the Latino Community
Do you have ADHD, depression, or anxiety?

Let's Empower Latino Minds and unveil the Hidden Realities of ADHD in our Community for Ourselves and Our Children.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month and with mental health comes a wide range of topics.
On this episode of HMA Lizette takes over the mic to talk about a topic that she has struggled with her entire life.

In today's episode, Lizette shares how she breaks generational trauma and decides to get her son tested for ADHD.

ADHD, or Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder, affects individuals of all backgrounds and cultures. However, within the Latino community, the challenges associated with recognizing and diagnosing ADHD can be amplified due to cultural factors and stigma.

Lizette sheds light on ADHD within the Latino community and offers guidance for parents who suspect their child may have ADHD, aiming to promote understanding, support, and appropriate diagnosis.

Educate yourself about ADHD symptoms, assessment procedures, and available resources. By fostering understanding, overcoming these challenges, and seeking culturally competent healthcare professionals, we can ensure that children within the community receive the support they need.

Together, we can promote awareness, provide accurate information, and empower parents to advocate for their children, facilitating a path toward appropriate diagnosis, understanding, and effective management of ADHD in the Latino community.
