 Doulas are experiencing burn out at an alarming rate.

The standard business model of working at an hourly rate is causing doulas to work way too many hours in order to be able to sustain their lifestyles.

Unfortunately, this puts doulas at risk of burn out due to the physical and emotional labor required as part of the job. Burnout can lead to exhaustion, overwhelm, a decreased ability to perform at your best or even physical illness.

Solely focusing on clients, and not creating other streams of revenue in your doula business means you will never LEVEL UP!

In this episode I will talk about how you can do this in a multitude of ways, but before you even start, you need to take a step back and look at the whole picture. This type of business isn't about quantity, but about quality. You need to work smarter, not harder in order to accomplish the things that you want and need in a shorter amount of time in order to reap more benefits.

At the end of the day, it is important to remember that creating multiple streams of income as a doula does not have to be an all-or-nothing game. Small changes can create big shifts in your business, setting you up for a more sustainable and successful future.

When you become a doula, you learn how to take care of pregnant, birthing, and postpartum parents, but you don't necessarily learn the ins and outs of business. Sure, some trainings include business classes, but they are usually a one size fits all approach, which unfortunately doesn't work for everyone.

But the truth is that as a doula, you need to have a good handle on business basics in order to make sure your practice is successful. You need to understand the different types of business models so you can pick one that is right for your lifestyle, know something about marketing, and build multiple streams of income. When you think about starting your birth or post part of business are you focused on the care that you’re going to provide or are you also thinking about building a solid foundation for your business that will evolve with you as your business grows?

It’s important to think about the services you were going to offer and your business and how you were going to handle that expansion. What do you need to make to survive, but also to thrive? The answers to those questions take some strategic planning.
