Home Video Hustle

The Christmas Hustle begins this week and i'm just going to get a movie in for myself early. Yeah, it may not be traditionally holly and jolly but it made me smile! Chris and Anita have never seen it and it's my first time watching it since I was a kid. It didn't really leave an impression on me back then but all these years later, maybe it can now. Anita also gives her quick review on Wicked, I give a PSA about staying out of the way of windows and we question whether adults can be grounded. Thank you for listening and we hope you enjoy the show!

Let's end the Halloween Hustle for 2024 with some new hotness! I was scrolling through social media a few months back kept seeing people talk about this movie called "The Substance." I would hear the terms "body horror" and "instant classic" thrown around and then I heard comparisons to movies I love and so, it had to be watched. Chris had heard nothing about it, so it went in as blind as possible. It won awards and recognition at Cannes, let's see how it gets recognized at HVH!

Unfortunately, we lost Tony Todd recently, so I figured we should show him some love by watching a film of his that I really don't see get discussed very often. Remakes get a bad rep and if im being honest, it's deserved a lot of the time, but I saw this film only once before and thought it was cool. Chris has never seen it before, so this was a fun convo to have. We also had to talk about that Tyson fight for a minute. We hope you enjoy the show!

Cameron makes his way back onto the podcast this week and he's actually the reason we watched Halloween H20. It was playing during a Halloween marathon and he had a lot of thoughts about it. As kids, we watched it and both agreed that it was more entertaining than the original! We're both grown men, more sophisticated i'd hope, so it's time to revisit this favorite from our childhood and see if it holds up. We hope you enjoy the show!

Oh yeah, the Halloween Hustle hasn't stopped! We continue on into November with another film, like Possessor, that I always wanted to watch but just never got around to. With the sequel in theaters now, I figured this would be as good a time as any. Smile has a lot more going on than I expected, and it gave Chris and I a lot to talk about. We still had to take a moment to discuss our love of White Castle though. We hope you enjoy the show!

The Halloween Hustle continues on into November! Our Patron Reneco wanted us to check out Lamberto Bava's "Demons!" I've actually seen this before thanks to Joe Bob Briggs but this is a first time watch for Chris. There isn't much plot to discuss with this film so we discuss the practical effects, the crazy layout of the movie theater, the terrible dubbing and it gave me a reason to break the translator app back out and have some fun. Have you seen this flick, what do you think about it? Thank you for listening!

Much love to our Patron Jerika! She contributes to the Halloween Hustle this week and she has Chris and I getting into a few debates about this film. Possessor has been on my radar for a long time and I was very curious to see what the son of David Cronenberg would be able to do in the same landscape his father became a master in. The bodies get done horribly, everything is weird, it's violent as hell and we here at HVH would have it no other way! We hope you enjoy the show.

It wouldn't be a Halloween Hustle without a Friday the 13th film and the homie Trade Voorhees is back to once again, lend us his horror knowledge. We were hype to get to this film because Trade had some strong thoughts about it, just not the ones you may be thinking. Did it just get too much hate at the time like Halloween III did or was this really just a two pack of you know what?

A new Stephen King flick just dropped on Max and I figured it would be fun because neither Chris, nor I have ever seen any version of Salem's Lot or read the book, so this is all brand new to the both of us. Chris did do a little extra homework and watch most of the original adaptation before the show, so he was able to fill in some gaps when I had questions. It doesn't seem to have great review scores online but they're better than the new Joker movie at least, so maybe we made a decent call.

It's Halloween Hustle time! We have to start this right and how more right can it be than to have PJ back by my side on the microphone, liquor in the cups and THE friendship fundamental, Grindhouse. PJ, Chris and I went to see this in theaters back in 2007 and since 2017 when we started HVH, we have referenced this film, told the story of going to see this film and showed it nothing but love. It took a long time to get here but it finally gets its own episode proper! We watched the full 3 hour plus experience and Chris watched the extended, split versions. It's been close to 20 years since we saw it in theaters, can it still be as fun and as hype as we remember it?
