I collect quotes like some people collect shells at the sea shore. Meaningful quotes are actually very much like sea shells. For small things can be utterly beautiful, and they usually take a great deal of life to create. So, like a shell, when a special quote catches my attention I’ll pick it up and pop it in my pocket so I can ponder and appreciate it later. And like a beautiful shell, after appreciating it the even greater joy is to give it away. To share it with someone else.

Well, this morning I noticed my jar of quotes is getting quite full and so its time to give some of them away. And of course, like any meaningful thing, you really can’t give it away because it has already become a part of you. But you can share. And so, here are a few short pithy quotes for you to ponder. If I don’t cite the source it’s because I don’t know it. There’s no particular theme. No particular order. No underlying message. Just a handful of shells from my jar. Enjoy.

“The man who knows everything can learn nothing.”

“The eye is a miracle. Small enough to fit into your small head but big enough the whole world can fit inside it.” — Rumi

“The best way to prepare for the future is to make the most of the present.”

“Humans have always been better at inventing tools than using them wisely”. - Yuval Noah Harari

“We must be willing to let go of the life we planned so as to have the life that is waiting for us.” – Joseph Campbell

“The gift of one’s full attention is the rarest and purest form of generosity.” — Simone Weil

“For every complex problem there is an answer that is clear, simple and wrong.”

― H. L. Mencken

“Go and make interesting mistakes, make amazing mistakes, make glorious and fantastic mistakes. Break some rules. Leave the world more interesting for your being here.” —Neil Gaiman

“A man on foot, on horseback or on a bicycle will see more, feel more, enjoy more in one mile than the motorized tourist can in a hundred miles." - Edward Abbey

“The world is full of magic things patiently waiting for our senses to grow sharper.” — Yeats

“Until you make the unconscious conscious, it will direct your life and you will call it fate.” — C.G. Jung

“Self-awareness is very much like an onion. Like an onion it has many many layers. And like an onion, the more time you spend peeling back those layers the more likely it is you’ll begin crying at unexpected times.” - Mark Manson

“I used to think the human brain was the the most wonderful organ in my body. Then I realized who was telling me this.” - Emo Phillips

“One day you will wake up and there won’t be any more time to do the things you’ve always wanted. Do them now.” —Paul Coelho

And with that I will wish you a very happy Autumn Sunday, and suggest to you that now is the very best time to do the things you’ve always wanted. Perhaps it’s best not to wait. Now, is always the very best time to build yourself a beautiful life
