Hondo Handy’s Podcast has a conversation with former Snow Hill High School and University of Maryland Eastern Shore Basketball Star, Teresa Waters. Her profession is teaching. She has taught a variety of business courses in Howard County for 38 years. She shares her story of playing in the first two Maryland State Girls Basketball Championships, ever held. She attended UMES on a Full Basketball Scholarship. Following UMES she landed a teaching and coaching job in Howard County for Oakland Mills High School, where she won a State Championship in 1998. She also won two State Championships while coaching at her present school, River Hill in 2006 and 2019. She has been honored with several Coach of the Year Awards. She has been selected to the Snow Hill Hall of Fame in 2019, River Hill Hall of Fame in 2016 and the Howard County Women’s Sports Hall of Fame in 2004. As a Student Advisor she selected as the State Advisor of the Year in 2004, the Reginal Advisor of the Year in 2006 and to the National Advisor Hall/Wall of Fame in 2020.

She shares her early days of following in her father’s footsteps and becoming a runner,. She later became involved with gymnastics. She talks about her journey to college, at Lock Haven University, her continued involvement in gymnastics, which led to her becoming a coach. During her early years of employment, she learned skills that she has been able to apply in Recreation. After spending years with Anne Arundel County Department of Recreation & Parks, she accepted a Recreation Services Division Chief position with Gaithersburg, leading to the Director’s position.

Dave is also an Associate Scout for the Baltimore Orioles. Dave shares his journey from his young days at the Ocean City Recreation & Parks Department, playing basketball and attending the Homerun Baseball Camp. He discuss his time playing Pop Warner Football and Berlin Little League Baseball. He then started playing travel baseball in Virginia. He talks about his teams and his three baseball coaches at Stephen Decatur High School. He had a great college baseball career at Guilford College. He finally reached his goal of becoming a Professional Baseball Player.

He discuss his journey from Ocean City Elementary School and Buckingham Elementary School to Atlanta, Georgia. He discuss his experience playing AAU Basketball and winning an AAU National Championship in Florida. Leading is high school team, St. Francis, to a 27-1 record and being named Defensive Player of the Year in his sophomore and junior seasons. He played his senior season for the number one high school team in the country, Oak Hill Academy in Mouth of Wilson, in Virginia. He got the opportunity when Kevin Durant left the team. He went on to help lead his team to a 40-1 record, setting a new record for single season wins. He next attended the University of Maryland, where he played for coach Gary Williams, won the ACC Regular Season Championship in 2010 and made 3 NCAA Tournament appearances. He was name captain of the Terps team, his senior season at Maryland. Next he started his Professional Career in France.
