  • The Evolution of a Divorce Lawyer to Imago Healer (Part 2) (Igor Meystelman)

In part 2 of our episode with attorney-turned-Imago-healer Igor Meystelman, Igor shares the nitty gritty of how Imago therapy works, explaining and drawing from his own journey and experience from the dialogs with his wife. Imago relies on the fundamentals of human behavior and our deep and innate desire to grow and form healthy human connections.

By sharpening and heightening our intrinsic senses of perception and intuition, Imago allows us to put what we already know, into thought and words. With practice, empathy becomes our initial reaction to any conflict or to any person, and supersedes our reactive and impulsive tendency to be insensitive, critical or harsh.

To fully appreciate this episode, be sure to listen to part 1 found here: https://hopetorecharge.com/episode/the-evolution-of-a-divorce-lawyer-to-imago-healer, in which Igor shares the journey of how he got to Imagoland. We previously mentioned how he saw many couples pursuing divorce but after a fateful and explosive conflict with his wife, he discovered Imago Therapy, which helped his conquer obstacles in his own marriage and exponentially strengthen the bond between himself and his spouse.

Although its power has the latent ability to overcome tremendous barriers, heal years of unintentional abuse and gain true wisdom, it is most effective when both participants are willing and ready to grow together, to heal and unite. In unimaginable ways, Imago provides the critical tools needed to mend years of chronic dispute and allows each participant to finally feel what their partner has felt all along. In their continuing journey, both participants can adapt new methods of truly understanding their spouses in a healthy and loving way and achieve a true love that comes from a place of safety, deep understanding, empathy and trust.

In his own personal life, after a fateful and explosive conflict with his wife, he discovered Imago Therapy, which helped his conquer obstacles in his own marriage and exponentially strengthen the bond between himself and his spouse. • Respecting Opposing Beliefs (Aliza Bulow)

Aliza Bulow, a returning guest, shares the path that led to her conversion to Judaism with us, an in depth conversation about finding belonging in our community, and the love, respect and trust she shares with her husband, despite his late-in-life rejection of their religion. Aliza previously shared her journey through her son’s depression and eventual suicide in, part 1 here and part 2 here.

As a young teenager, Aliza was unsettled with her parents’ religious views, and searched for truth and peace. She studied different paths before finding a book on Judaism in her middle school library and immediately felt at home and wanted to convert. The local Rabbi told her she was too young to convert, but that she should go to camp where she ate up every opportunity to learn. Aliza’s parents supported her exploration, and off she flew over the North Pole to Israel at 16 years old to see if anyone could tell she was a convert, where it was immediately obvious that she had not been born Jewish, having a last name of Beech from the city of Portland, Oregon.

It took time and a great deal of learning to feel that she could claim to be a part of her new community. However, as her kids and grandchildren are born into it, their family feels more established in the community. Becoming a leader has given her a purpose among the people. Aliza still feels like an outsider looking in at mainstream Orthodox Judaism since she believes that she was not made to follow practices commonly held, but to connect herself and other people to Hashem, and to each other, to strengthen the Jewish community so it can shine brightly and cause others to want to join too. Her goal is to guide others to the truth of who God is.

As a convert, she has a different perspective on everything. She didn’t learn or pursue out of obligation or because it’s what “everyone else” was doing. It was all fresh; it was all new. An average Jewish person may not have noticed what she sees because they often see commonly-held perspectives.

Her marriage to someone who left Judaism leaves no correct answer on how to deal with such a situation. When tragedy struck her family and her husband left their shared spirituality, they choose to cling to each other through the hardship, without judgment through the grieving process. While Aliza is sad that her husband turned away from God, he supports her in her choice of practicing religion, despite his aversion to it. He works hard to provide enough money for kosher food, eats kosher cheese and is supportive of her dreams to change the world with Hashem. While it is challenging to be disconnected from a spouse because of nonparallel beliefs, there are many married couples who do share their faith but still don’t share a spiritual connection. Despite their philosophical differences, their children have grown up seeing parents demonstrate a deep respect and love for someone with an opposing view, allowing for a safe environment for exploration and the choice to choose their own path

    • “How do you do this? And not fear that your kids will X, Y, and Z? You can’t. The fear is there. So the question is, how do you go there and deal with that fear?” @AlizaBulow @MatanaJacobs #HopetoRecharge

  • Mental Health Awareness Month: Does Awareness Help? (Solo)

Coming back from Passover break, we catch up on Matana's journey, and the internal changes seen over the past few weeks. May is crowned National Mental Health Awareness month, but is it enough to just have it marked in a calendar? Growth and appreciation are a constant and required focus to continue along the journey of recovery and noticing the little details are a critical tool to developing a healthy gratitude mindset. Awareness can be fickle if it isn't well defined and intended for long term internalization.

Awareness is only successful if we make a commitment to take the required next steps to living a better and healthier life. Each person's journey to recovery is unique and is every therapist's session. No two people will chart the same course and we all must try different avenues that could lead to improvement since we don't know in advance which will be the best choice. We all, however, must put forth that effort to make it happen or there won't be any positive change.

If you need more support in your mental health journey please reach out to us in our private Facebook group. We also offer free 30-minute fitting calls for our coaching program. You do not have to walk through your mental health struggle alone. Because as always, together is better!

  • The Heartbeat of Life (Solo)

As Matana faces different hectic life events, she navigates from important to more important. Often, we neglect important items for things that are more important, and that's ok. Feeling unaccomplished or missing out on goals can often lead to disappointment but we need to also focus on downtime. Critically important for maintaining proper mental health, taking the time we need to reflect, relax or focus is also needed for continued energy.

When we need to, choosing ourselves over others isn't selfish, but is self preservation. When we do get set back, feeling the pain, struggle or anxiety is part of being human and a lesson to learn from, so we can understand why. • Measuring Success by Frequency, Duration & Intensity (Solo)

We're human an are programmed to want things in our life. Some people want happiness, others seek weight loss, better sleep, reducing stress, financial success or a healthy mindset. We yearn and it often consumes us. When we receive that which we so desperately seek, how do we react? Do we utilize gratitude? Many of us do, but is the gratitude expressed, proportionate to the intensity of the original yearning?

Everything in life is in degrees of frequency, duration, and intensity. Even healing is measured in these terms. We often look for absolutes. Am I completely healed? More often than not, complete healing is the end goal but not easily reached. Still, we are able to applaud our successes by the incremental and small changes of improvement by noticing and logging the frequency, duration, and intensity of our experiences over time.

As we all know, sharing can help others. We are here to support each other and to learn from each other. In mental health, Together is better.

  • The Home Run Formula Using Neuro-Emotional Technique (NET) Therapy (Jason Wasser)

Jason Wasser is a healer therapist who practices the neuro-emotional technique. A licensed marriage and family therapist, he is one of only a few thousand licensed NET practitioners in the country and a mind-body integrative wellness specialist. His knowledge about the mind-body connection and how to move past traditional talk therapy through trauma muscle testing is extensive.

Jason has witnessed firsthand positive patient outcomes that he has facilitated through his use of the neuro-emotion technique for releasing physical pain rooted in emotional trauma. Giving us a rare inside look at the new research being done by Andrew Newberg on NET, he details the rigorous process of clinically validating these findings through FMRI scans and muscle testing.

Matana and Jason had a lot to unpack together, discussing traumas and their physiological effect. Jason details his “Home Run Formula” which touches on the four bases of mind-body wellness; removing toxins, assessing nutrition, repairing structural damage, and healing the mind.

He coaches his patients to focus on their core values and where in their life those core values were violated. He guides patients through the neuro-emotional technique by focusing on the beliefs associated with their emotional reality rather than specific traumatic events, accomplishing what traditional therapies take years to tackle.

As we all know, sharing can help others. We are here to support each other and to learn from each other. In mental health, Together is better.

  • Revisiting Finding Support in your Mental Health Journey (Solo) Part 3

What do you do when you are struggling with your mental health and you are not feeling supported by your family and friends the way you wish? This is a question that I am often asked and is a common concern in the mental health community. This is our last episode in our solo series where I am diving into my own story of healing which included, finding the right support.

I want to honestly share with you a perspective that you may have not considered when it comes to your loved ones. Sometimes it is difficult for those that are the closest to you to fully understand what you are going through. It can even be stressful because they may not have the language to support you the way they wish they could and they also might feel overwhelmed because they are carrying the weight of your struggles.

Although this may seem like an impossible situation with no clear solution, there is a practical approach that you can take that will not only help you find the support you need but also be a relief to the ones you love. Tune in today to hear how I found support outside of my friends and family and why I recommend that you do the same.

Speaking of support, we would LOVE to be a part of your community. Find us on Facebook, Hope to Recharge where we will lock arms with you and be a support when you need it the most. Because as always, together is better!

  • Breaking Free of Child Anxiety and OCD (Dr. Eli Lebowitz)

Children with OCD and anxiety need their parents to understand that they feel terrified. They need their parents to express confidence in their ability to face their fears. What they don't need is for their parents to do everything for them when they're afraid because over time, they will need to learn how to deal with their fears when their parents aren't around.

Dr. Lebowitz’s book, Breaking Free of Child Anxiety and OCD: A Scientifically Proven Program for Parents, provides a roadmap for how parents can successfully guide their children to overcome their fears. The way parents accommodate their own OCD, severe anxiety or phobias can have an extremely negative impact on their children. Many people use rituals for years and do not seek therapy until they see what their habits are doing to their children.

The difference between a quirk and a disorder has to do with how much of a negative impact the particular way you want to do things has on your life.A child not attending school because of their fears, someone is unable to sleep or eat, behaviors which strongly affect relationships are generally examples of a disorder. Getting help with problems causing smaller amounts of distress will improve your current life and may prevent the quirks from developing into disorders

According to Dr. Lebowitz’s research, the best way to respond to a child who is experiencing anxiety is to first validate their experience and provide confidence. If your child is experiencing a full-blown panic attack, there's not much to do, except wait it out and remain calm.

Children who grew up without any serious anxiety and suddenly develops a very intense fear, often had a traumatic experience that will require more support and a different kind of therapy. Try to become aware of periodic anxiety before they culminate into a larger event.

At the end of this episode, Matana continues her conversation asking Dr. Lebowitz personal questions of experiences in Matana's life and with her children, and received priceless and life changing advice. Initially priced as a limited time offer for the first week discounted price of $4.99 and then $9.99, this content will available exclusively as premium content here: https://hopetorecharge.com/product/breaking-free-of-child-anxiety-and-ocd-dr-eli-lebowitz-bonus-content/

    Quotes:

    • “One child can suffer and a whole family could fall apart just because there's not enough awareness of how to support that one child.” @MatanaJacobs #HopetoRecharge
    • “Parents, you're like a mirror, and your child is looking in the mirror and they're seeing who they are from your reactions, from your responses. And if what they see reflected back to them is a child who's always weak, vulnerable, helpless, overwhelmed, can't cope, can't deal, what are they going to believe about themselves? Exactly. That's right. They're going to see themselves as unable to stand anxiety. And that is pretty much the worst thing for an anxious child to believe about themselves.” @MatanaJacobs @EliLebowitz #HopetoRecharge
    • “Here's what I'll say about [your kid having] panic attacks… Stay calm… When that plane is bumping around, you’re gripping the arm rest, and your knuckles are white and your belly is tightened – in that moment, you don't want to look over at the flight crew and see them freaked out… You wanna see them being normal.” @MatanaJacobs @EliLebowitz #HopetoRecharge
    • “Panic attacks are not dangerous.” @MatanaJacobs @EliLebowitz #HopetoRecharge
    • “Your child is scared at night. So you sleep next to them. They feel better in that moment. Of course they do. But tomorrow, do they feel like they can handle being alone? No.” @MatanaJacobs @EliLebowitz #HopetoRecharge

  • Living with Infertility Miscarriage & Chronic Bleeding (Alana Shlagbaum) Part 2

In part 2 of our talk with Alana Shlagbaum, who is not a therapist, doctor or any kind of health expert but a preschool teacher from New Jersey, Matana shares her own personal story with Alana, of how miscarriage and living with chronic bleeding prevented her from becoming pregnant.

After having her first son, Matana went on birth control. During that time, she also lived with  chronic feminine bleeding which got worse after her third child. Due to Jewish law, she was unable to physically be with her husband unless she had stopped bleeding and undergone ritual bathing, but her bleeding did not stop. Additionally, her mind and body did not respond well to the strong hormones she was taking.

She wanted to travel to a family event without bleeding, so she doubled my birth control that weekend, which put her into a full panic attack that kick-started her massive depression. After that, she dealt with several miscarriages and finally found an alternative hormonal birth control. She unknowingly got pregnant for her last time in my forties, Thank God without any issues, despite her intense fear. It had been a journey full of many tears, hard work, and much growth.

Many women suffer through challenges like these silently and alone. Both Matana and Alana want you to know that you're not alone. There are other people out there with similar struggles and they both both made it through. There is real hope.
