  • E29: The Twilight Zone S5E31 The Encounter
    In continuation of celebrating AAPI month it’s Kip’s pick with her favorite horror writer of all time: television writer Rod Serling, the creator of the Twilight Zone, who is from her birthplace of Binghamton, New York. Season 5 features Japanese American actor George Takei in this controversial, banned for TV episode entitled The Encounter. This deals with 2 people from the opposite side who are faced with their individual American guilt.
    This TV episode stirs deep feelings from Kip & Dana with the sentence that many 3rd generation American children know well: “My parents speak it, but I can’t”. Dana recalls racist talk from her white grandpa & Kip recounts remarks from her racist black grandma.

  • E28: The Wailing 2016
    This episode we kick off Asian & Pacific Islander History month! Kyp & Dana cover one of the top rated Korean films: The Wailing (2016). They drudge through the very long plot, argue plenty over misinterpretations and touch on Dana’s acupuncture experience. We learn that Kyp’s mom thought she was bringing evil into her house as a horror fan. Many bad Korean pronunciations are heard & the ladies are so sorry about it. Kyp gets real mad about children not being tried as adults for murder & Dana’s racist grandpa would’ve fit in well in this movie. Was Amber Heard responsible for the village murders? Can Kyp & Dana salvage their friendship after watching this movie? Did you fall asleep watching this?

  • E27: Frankenhooker 1990

    SPOILER ALERT: the end of film is discussed

    This week's review is a sci-fi comedy/horror by Frank Henenlotter: Frankenhooker. A jersey boy tries to bring back his dearly departed with collected parts from street hookers.  Bill Murray in 1990 raves "If you only see one movie this year it should be Frankenhooker!" One lesson learned from this film is that crack is whack.

    Dana and Kyp give a quick take on the Johnny Depp case. They share their dive bar day's aesthetic, Spanish dad verbal abuse, and compare how the standard for fat for woman has changed over the years. Dana talks about the smell diet while Kyp shares 20+ nicknames for crack cocaine. Question's raised:

  • E 26: Death of Me 2020
    This week is a listener request! From the director of many of the Saw movies comes Death of Me! Dana loved it, Kypria was bored. The ladies almost end their friendship over animals, discuss their prickliness of religions, why you should test drive the car before you buy it and Kyp tries real hard to convince Dana that Thailand won’t kill her one day.

  • E25: Easter Bunny, Kill! Kill! 2006

    It’s Easter Sunday! 2006’s Easter Bunny Kill! Kill! inspired by 1965’s Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill! certainly does not hold up to today’s standard of PC language making Kypria for the first time draw the line as far as impressions go. In revealing their experiences with Easter, Dana talks about her current nightmares of her negligent bunny childhood and Kypria tries to remember what a Jehovah Witness’s Passover was like. Dana explains what a rolodex is, talks handling poop at work and male prisoner butt swabs in thorough detail to both of their disgust. 

    Many revelations are made dealing with current PC talk as well. For example hookers are now called sex workers and rape is renamed as sexual assault. Shot out to the old Spanish abuelas that watched you as a kid, single moms and parents dealing with special need children. Kypria shares her hate for baby talk and is shocked that Dana is having a hard time believing that her dad was a white Latino.

    Rafael flags someone on youtube and translate’s the L.A Spanish in this film, in turn reminds Dana and Kypria of their struggle with being non Spanish speaking Latinas. How do you answer:

  • E24: The Taking of Deborah Logan 2014
    This week the girls are back with a found footage possession film that just tickles Dana’s fancy. Kyp was not impressed. They discuss Dana’s granny’s Alzheimer’s parallel, a deep dish massage, actress Jill Larson’s blissful ignorance of horror films, & her role as another unhinged woman in a soap opera. Dana makes sure that everyone takes their Omega 3s so they don’t end up like Deborah and how she and her cat almost died in her old Victorian rental home during the witching hour. Kyp thoroughly hates the documentarian Mia and would not be happy that Mia would likely correct her pronunciation of “Alzheimer’s”. Thoughts this episode: How did Kyp go her whole life not knowing what The Witching Hour is? Were your parents weird & keep your childhood room the same? Did you see The Notebook?

    In continuation of woman’s history month, the low-budget 2016 film Prevenge is reviewed. This British comedy slasher is written by, directed by and stars Alice Lowe in her directorial debut.
    Kip shares her men vs women experiences as an Uber driver. They also have a PSA: Don’t buy reptiles for children & don’t accept free drinks from weirdos, ladies. Polling all British people: what does it mean to really ‘know your onions’, & do you really use the expressions: fanny, shit tip, proper shag, & gobshite? Also what do mental health checks look like for expecting mothers in the US vs the UK?
