Kip & Dana wrap up black history month with the 2019 film Us. Jordan Peele successfully crosses over from the comedy world to horror in this Twilight Zone inspired film. Dana breaks down a long list of Peele’s references while Kypria dives into the musical journey of Us and shares Hollywood’s ranking of the shades of black women. Kypria and Dana reminisce the 80s wave of charity concerts and the Sweet Valley High twins. In unrelated news, Kypria proclaims Tonya Harding’s innocence and is accused of killing a rabbit. Also, she shares her poop in the pool work memory. Apologies to Kip’s disrespectful mispronunciation of Lupita Nyong’o.

In continuation of celebrating black horror, Dana & Kypria are joined by special guest and friend Lakeshia Williams. Lakeisha is an avid Jiu Jitsu practitioner, Cardiothoracic Surgery Physician's Assistant and fellow horror movie lover. Together they experience Bill Gunn’s 1973 low budget blaxploitation vampire horror 'Ganja & Hess' which brought upon feelings of shock and confusion. Kypria and Lakeshia reflect on society's reaction to black people in non stereotypical roles in film and in their personal encounters. Kypria gives a PSA on black mental health awareness.

We’re kicking off Black History Month with a Blumhouse Production that has taken the lead in bringing back black voices in horror. The Sweetheart 2019 release with director J.D Dillard & starring Kiersey Clemons is not just a creature feature but tells a story with political allegory and racial empowerment. Dana deep dives into the film’s special effects & talks about the Tennessee Body Farms?! Kip recounts Rafael’s own terrifying creature encounter with a bear. We also learn what chittering means and it’s icky.

Stephen King's 1979 tv film adaption Salem’s Lot is discussed. Several scenes of misogyny trigger Dana and Kip. Some of the men are trash but it's 1979 so what can you do? They both have different experiences of what southern hospitality is yet share the same childhood Bible memory. To satisfy Dana's need for backstory, they make up one for the characters of Eva and Weasel. This film raises many questions:

What is the tail of a gate? (tailgating)

How did they get the dog crying sound effect?

Does King portray black characters in only lowly, servant positions?

Would you abandon your young sibling in the woods running from certain danger?

It’s the controversial film Trump didn’t want you to see. Blumhouse presents The Hunt in which massive cliche right and left stereotypes are portrayed. George Orwell’s Animal Farm parallels are discussed & an epic fight scene ensues with a rabbit cameo. There are clever cast names that only closed caption supplies. Dana finally gets her backstory. Kip & Dana argue about the true definition of millennials because Dana refuses to be one. Also, according to NPR we can say ‘black people’ instead of ‘African Americans’ now. Pro tip: create fake accounts to spy on the other side; create a new algorithm for shits & giggles.

Lastly:

Is peeing on something a dominance move?

This was Dana's pick and she takes full, regrettable responsibility for it. The GA ice/snow storm alert has her totally distracted but she describes some intense Skinwalker lore that makes Kyp squirm. They both horribly & confusingly recount an easy movie plot.  Dana catches 1 too many director oversights and they hope Native American appropriation in cinema has gotten better over time (?). Kyp gives some important insight on the ONE Bill Murray movie to NEVER watch.
