The Pirates lost 2 of 3 in San Diego this weekend. But is this team looking better? It feels as if they are playing more entertaining baseball under Don Kelly. Will it be good enough to save the job of Ben Cherington? That wouldn’t really be a good thing. The Pirates are 10-12 under Kelly, but it was brutally bad before he took over. If the Buccos do play .500 baseball under Kelly, is that a good thing?
What do fans want to see out of the Buccos the rest of the way? What is best for their future?
Pirates pre-post game host Dan Zangrilli joined the show. Dan joked about the time he was offered an overnight shift in the early days of The Fan. We then got into the Pirates under Don Kelly and how the vibe is up, at least a little bit, with the guys in that clubhouse. Dan said he’s not sure if you can simply look at what the MLB club is doing before you decide about your GM. Andrew McCutchen made some history over the weekend and Dan called him the best Pirates player of our generation. He said Cutch is a fringe HOF player, but he isn’t sure he’d get quite enough to get in. Dan labeled McCutchen as the most important Pirate of nearly the last 50 years.
