If you secretly (or not-so-secretly) have the sense of humor of a 10 year old boy you will hoot and giggle and snort as you romp along with Scab and his non-stop shenanigans.

AMAZING BOOK!

This is an awesome book. It's very funny. Scab runs for class president against the smartest girl in class but he doesn't really want to be president he just wants to beat her at something. Scab wants everyone to vote for him so he says he will eat anything the kids bring to school. And boy, do they bring some bad stuff. It makes Scab have to think about why he's running for president. This book made me laugh so much. The illustrations are really funny, too. Buy this book and you won't be sorry. I have read the other books in the series and they are all good, too.

My son very much loves this series after I purchased the 1st one for him. He is not a great reader and would rather hit a baseball than read sometimes but this series keeps his attention and he likes to read this series very much

Narrator or Book? I can't tell which is worse

The narrator doesn't read with any expression or inflection. Sometimes, it seems like she forgets to pause at a period. On the other hand, the book has an annoying amount of unnecessary description and misplaced modifiers. So I really don't know if it's the narrator or the author or a combination of both that makes me want to stop listening. I keep looking at the time left and wondering where the plot could go from here. The only thing that keeps me going is the money I spent and enough action to make the book somewhat interesting.

Entrancing!

Joan Aiken is a marvellous writer whose imagination is boundless. Although I am nearly 60 I bought this for myself and listen to a part of it in bed at night to help me sleep. I use the timer facility so that it stops after 30 minutes, but I never hear the end because I am asleep before then! This is not a criticism, it is actually lavish praise. The images she brings to life are so well drawn that it reminds me of being read to in bed as a child. Very comforting. The writers target audience, children, would love this book as much as I do. Of that I am sure. I have bought two other audio books from this author and use them in the same way. Maybe more insomniacs should try it.

Wonderful old fashioned stories

This wonderful collection of short stories by Frank Baum is another delightful addition to anyone who is a fan of his work. Based on famous Mother Goose rhymes, all stories are fascinating background tales of the various characters involved. I always get pleasure from reading these, as the author's imagination knows no bounds.

glad I did

I have a Nook, so I had to get a Kindle for PC to be able to read these books... glad I did... I read the first story in this book, about the little boy who lived with his aunt and uncle, and took a sixpense to leave and not return... Sing a Song of Sixpense... I had never heard this version, I think I will love this book!! can't wait to read the rest of the stories!!! :-)

Stories to back up nursery rhymes

This is an excellent book with stories to back up the origional nursery rhymes. It is very interesting and fun to read to youngsters.
