Fancy Nancy is More than just a Pretty Book

I honestly had my doubts when Fancy Nancy came on the scene. I never thought I would like a sparkly princess type book. But she is more than just sparkle and shine. This book tells about making the best of things, being loving and checking out the stars. I love her vocabulary use!

Fancy Nancy rocks!

I love Fancy Nancy books! They introduce my daughter to new "fancy" words. When I bring up a word in conversation that she might not know, I find myself saying "that's fancy for..." so it helps her remember the new fancy word I taught her! I bought this Stellar Stargazer book for my 3 1/2 year old niece and although this particular book might be difficult for her to understand now, she'll enjoy it when she's 4 or so. For girls growing out of these young books, there are Fancy Nancy chapter books too!

Stellar Book!!!

Yet another great book by Jane O'Connor in the Fancy Nancy series! Adorable illustrations, as ever, and wonderful scientific-based information about stars set in fun family-time story about watching stars. The glow-in-the-dark cover is a cute bonus!

BUY IT

AWSOME book! if you are looking for a girly yet educative book for a little girl, this one's it. Unlike other fancy nancy books (which are still nice stories nonetheless!), I have found that in this one you learn facts without realizing it. Its even good for adults seriously! Loved it.

Great book - much more indepth than the easy readers ...

Great book - much more indepth than the easy readers but filled with wonderful science tid-bits approved by those in the field.

Beatrix Potter's passion for the natural world lay behind the creation of her famous tales. A particular source of inspiration was the Lake District, where she lived for the last 30 years of her life as a farmer and conservationist. This treasure trove includes "Peter Rabbit", "The Tailor of Gloucester", "Squirrel Nutkin", "Two Bad Mice", "Mrs. Tiggy Winkle", "Benjamin Bunny", "Jeremy Fisher", "Jemimah Puddleduck", "The Flopsy Bunnies", "Ginger and Pickles", and "Mr. Toad".

Members Reviews:

Captivating classic

The stories are classics and though we are often drawn to Beatrix Potter's books for the beautiful illustrations, the stories very much hold attention in the recorded format.

Flo Gibson captivated our children, years ago, with her readings & now she is captivating another generation in our family. Her unique voice holds the attention & can also be soothing.

Though the Potter books are aimed at the youngest generation, I found myself not wanting to leave the room until the end of the tale.

Title: Billy Bones: Tales from the Secrets Closet

Author: Christopher Lincoln

Narrator: Peter Bishop

Format: Unabridged

Length: 5 hrs and 18 mins

Language: English

Release date: 01-17-12

Publisher: Christopher Lincoln Author

Ratings: 5 of 5 out of 2 votes

Genres: Kids, Ages 5-7

Publisher's Summary:

High Manners Manor creaks and groans as old houses do-but this is no ordinary house. In the dark, specters hiss, ghosts grumble, and skeleton boy Billy Bones and his family file the Biglum family's deepest secrets in a locked and hidden closet. When Billy makes his first human friend, Millicent Biglum, the real adventure begins.

In the tradition of filmmaker Tim Burton, Christopher creates a richly-imaginative, spooky adventure where friendships bloom, betrayals linger, schemes entangle-and heroism appears in the most unexpected places.

Critic Reviews:

"Full of creatively descriptive language, this delightful story moves along rapidly, bordering on but never crossing into campy." (School Library Journal)

Members Reviews:

A great book for kids who like "not too spooky"

Would you listen to Billy Bones: Tales from the Secrets Closet again? Why?

Sure. The main character is engaging, the narrator is very good and the story is a real original.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Billy, of course, but there are so many entertaining characters it's hard to pick. Okay, I'll go with a few - Billy's friend Millicent, Dame Biglum, and Glass-Eyed Pete the pirate. They are all feisty and fun.

Any additional comments?

Peter Bishop's reading is a dead ringer for Neil Gaiman, which is weird! His voice and accent are eerily like Mr. G's.
