Excellent book for middle school reluctant male readers

My 5th grade son has always had a hard time getting focused on the books his teachers have assigned him to read. I saw your book "Summer & Shiner" online at Amazon.com and thought that my son would get a kick out of it. Once he started reading it he couldn't put it down. I am usually pretty strict about his bedtime, but when he wants to stay up later, just so he could finish the chapter, I let it slide. He has just finished the book and can't wait to read more about the adventures of Carley and Troop. Thanks for getting my son excited about reading.

Perfect

This book is by a local author for us. It is a perfect story for young boys. As an adult I also appreciated it. Was thankful to see it available on Amazon. I had borrowed my friends copy when I first read it. Now I will have my own copy to share with my grandsons.

Blast into the Past!

Nolan Carlson has made time travel into the past possible with his book: Summer and Shiner! You will get sucked into the world of Carley Bimberg, his best friend Troop, and his pet raccoon Shiner. You'll be able to be a part of Carley's world, small town Kansas in the 1940's. The reader will see Carley rescue a raccoon and become friends with him,do chores,accept dares, have his courage tested, meet gypies,learn, laugh, and grow up like a regular kid.

In Summer and Shiner I felt like I was there, understanding them, their feelings, I got to know them. Nolan Carlson has really captured the essence of enjoying and exploring life as a kid. I could really understand Carley, Troop, and the rest of the gang. When they laughed, I laughed to because it was humorous. In somber situations I could feel how they felt. What's also great about this book is that a lot of it really happened in real life, 75% of the events occurred. This was great, if you experienced something and write about it, it always seems more realistic or believable. The books are short and a pretty easy read, so it is excellent for hesitant readers. However, readers that are more accomplished may feel that the book is too easy. Besides that fact, Summer and Shiner is an excellently crafted and formed book with great adventures for kids anywhere. Overall I believe that Summer and Shiner superb book with a great heart that would not be easily forgotten.

Harkens Back to a Bygone Era

School is out for the summer in Randall, Kansas. It is the late 1940's and Carlisle "Carley" Bimberg and his best friend, pure-blood Cherokee, Bryan "Troop" Whitewater are walking through the woods. They have finished the chores for the day and are just being boys.

A Great Book

I don't believe in monsters, but I love monster stories. The stories in this book are interesting and well-told, and Denica Fairman does an excellent job reading them (including voices for the characters in each story with a number of accents). The author does not try to convince the reader that the stories must be true, but uses evidence to support the case of each story. He also provides evidence that the stories may not be true, then leaves the reader to judge for him/herself.

Julia Donaldson and Lydia monks make the perfect team :)

We have a few books from this wonderful pairing of author and illustartor and they are perfect for mum and toddler! We started with the Singing Mermaid which has just the sweetest story, beautiful words ( the books are written in rhyme ) and added 'what the ladybird heard' ( funny tale of the attempted stealing of a prize cow) then this book ( sweet story of a poetic rabbit who finds a friend who also appreciates poems) and the newest addition Sugarlump and the Unicorn. All the books have amazing intricate amusing sparkly illustrations, and wonderful story lines - my little girl was introduced them at the age of one and a half, and immediately loved them. The language use is clever and catchy and she has picked up a lot of new words and interesting ideas from them, and the characters pop up in each of the books so its fun for her to spot her favourite characts in the different books. For us, no one else beats these beautiful special books that you will want to keep for ever :)

Great book for a toddler

This book and story is absolutely amazing! We read it every night!

Fabulous

The Rhyming Rabbit is a brilliant tale of an unappreciated rabbit who'd rather make up poems and songs than eat grass, run from foxes or sleep. His warren family are exasperated with him so he digs a tunnel and sets off on his own adventure. He's rebuffed by a worm, mole and a very rude centipede but eventually the rhyming rabbit finds a like minded friend.

It's a wonderful tale of finding friendship. It's aimed at a slightly more mature child than 'What the Ladybird Heard' while still having the rhymes and raised glitter to entertain younger children. There are raised glittery wriggly worms, bones, treasure, beetles and lots more to discover.

There's a lot of text in this large sized hardback book and some fabulous Lydia Monks drawing and collage illustrations.

Very entertaining and well worth adding to your book collection.

Perfect for a horse crazy little girl!

I have a horse crazy daughter who just adores this series of books. She just turned 6 and is in Kindergarten. I am a middle school teacher turned stay at home mom, and I bought these books to read with her. While these are a bit difficult for her reading level just yet, she is trying to read them on her own and I suspect by the end of Kindergarten, she'll be reading them with guidance.

In regards to reading level, I personally would recommend these books for an advanced reading Kindergartener- 2nd grade. However, children 3 1/2 and older would enjoy listening to them.

The illustrations are adorable and remind me of the vintage Golden Books and the story lines are heartwarming but easy for young students to follow. Overall, the Pony Scouts books are great for a horse crazy little girl (or boy)! I bought all of them!

Teaches a lesson about paying attention and following instruccions

My 6 year old got the whole series of six books for christmas and loves it! This one teaches the kids the important of listening and following directions. I like that each of the books in this series have a Pony Pointer Dictionary with a couple of the most horse vocabulary. A great idea, especially for city kids like mine.
