Grandmother Rabbit Has Patience With Grandson Skipper

Skipper is such a likeable little rabbit! He has quite the adventure getting to Grandmother's House with the hot cherry pie! ...and it doesn't quite get there the way Mother Rabbit had expected. Grandmother Rabbit teaches Skipper a lesson in such a nice manner and with such patience! It's a very cute picture book for 4-5 year olds. The older ones will understand the lesson. The adults will have smiles on their faces. It is well worth having in a child's book collection!

Will grandma get any pie?

It is a lovely and heartwarming story with beautiful illustrations. I little rabbit has to go visit his grandmother and bring her a hot from the oven cherry pie. On his way he meets several friends. They all want a piece of pie and they are willing to trade something for it.

Kind little rabbit just cannot say no, so he ends up at his grandmother's house with some seeds, an acorn, worms, milk... and the last piece of pie! Grandmother scolds him gently, but saves the day by saying that she can use the worms to catch some fish for dinner, plant the seeds to eventually make flour and bread from them, and an acorn can grow into a beautiful tree next to her house.

Funny, as I was reading the story, I kept wondering if there was going to be any pie left for grandma, and there was.

A wonderful book to teach about sharing

A Surprise for Grandmother Rabbit is a wonderful little kids book to teach about sharing, bartering and caring. I really enjoyed the visual use of the pie to show how the story was progressing as the pie became smaller and smaller. Children who are just learning basic math concepts will have an extra bonus of learning about fractions when reading this story, too! The author took care with laying out the story in a fashion that was concise and easy to follow.

During the holiday season it would be a great choice to teach about caring in the community by adding A Surprise for Grandmother Rabbit to your list!

A Surprise for Grandmother Rabbit

The book, A SURPRISE FOR GRANDMOTHER RABBIT, by Barbara Smith, is a delightful book about a good hearted little rabbit named Skipper. As he goes about running an errand for his mother, he ran into several friends who asked for a slice of the Cherry Pie he was taking to his Grandmother. Each friend has a special gift to give him in return as he goes on his way.

By the time he reached Grandmother's house, her pie was only half a pie. He felt bad about giving away her pie. Then he remembered the gifts his friends gave him. He gave these to his Grandmother as well. Grandmother was wise. She appreciated Skipper's big and good heart. She appreciated his willingness to share. But she realized that she needed to teach little Skipper to wait and get permission before giving something away that belonged to someone else. So she made an agreement with him to wait until he got to her house the next time before sharing with his friends and she would help him. Skipper liked the agreement and seemed relieved to know what to do next time.

Grandmother helped little Skipper feel better about the situation by sharing her plans for all the gifts his friends had given him.

It was OK.

Any additional comments?

helpful?

The basic teachings are sound, although very limited in its application.

It is hard to listen to the same introduction for 1 ? min.

I take objection to his suggestion that others do not want us to know these things and the suggestion that one learns so that we can challenge and beat the teacher in front of the rest of the class. This is likely to annoy the teacher and so hinder the child?s progress.

Such a good story

This is such a cute and good story. It is a favorite with my children and is read almost every night before everyone goes to bed. I recommend it to everyone.

Wonderful Children's Book

What a wonderful children's book to read to your toddler, and it's short enough to read in a couple of night's before they go to bed. The illustrations are very well done and add a lot to the story.
