Q: Talking about your mix: How did you meet the bass, Mister Hurtig?

A: The most influential time that shaped my sound was between end of 1980s until some where beginning of 2000's. There were so many producers, tracks and genres that had a huge impact on me at that time, I simply couldn't fit everything in the mix. I've chosen tracks that either touched me emotionally or where I got the WOW and goosebumps feeling when I heard them for the first time.

Q: As you´re living in a smaller city close to Helsinki in Finland. How do you manage your travels every weekend?

A: It's actually quite convenient. I live in Pirkkala now, we have a small airport just around 7 km from home. Sometimes I take a really short flight or a 1,5h train trip to Helsinki airport where from I continue the journey.

Q: Which Cid Inc projects are coming soon?

A: I've finished quite a lot of new originals the past months, so expecting to release them this year on my own Replug label and a few others obviously. This year Replug label nights will propably see the daylight as well.

3 QUESTIONS to FLORIAN KRUSE:

Q: Your selection is different to the Florian Kruse music we all know. So how did you meet the bass?

A: When I started buying records it was more or less Techno. One of my first records was Carl Cox with ‘The End Of The Cliché’ in 1995. Mayday and Love Parade were the biggest events at that time and I was at my first Love Parade in the age of 14. Then I started buying more experimental music by Moodyman, Dr. Rockit, Etienne De Crécy and names like that. When I started DJing latin and vocal house was big. it was all about massive vocals (almost screaming) on fast organic beats produced by acts such as Kings Of Tomorrow, Jon Cutler, Ian Pooley and Masters At Work to name a few. I really liked that style of music end of the 90’s but I am not producing Latin House today, you are completely right - there is still soul in my music. My set for ‘How I Met The Bass’ is not about Latin House. It starts with a smooth soul groover by Georg Levin that I loved to play a lot when I started DJing in bars in Hamburg. Sonar Kollektiv was the label where the record came out and it was quite famous at that time and even Dixon produced music with Georg Levin on Sonar Kollektiv. When you listen to the last quarter of my set you can hear some influences in my tracks I recently put out for sure. Steve Bug, Josh Wink and the music that got released on Poker Flat, Dessous, F Communications and Ovum was my thing and most of the records they put out today are still catching me.

Q: You´re releasing your music on big labels such as Suara, Green, Audiomatique, Einmusika, Soul De Anima. Any more label goals to reach?

A: There are always new goals to reach - it never stops but I keep them as a secret for today and let you know when they come true

Q: Which future projects are on the way?

A: I have signed a follow up EP with the Lazarusman to Dave Seaman’s Selador Records and another EP together with Saccao to Lost On You records which is a label that donates all the money from the sales to children in Africa and so do I. There is a limited vinyl edition to pre-order, just have a look into my newsfeed on Facebook. Other than that I am constantly working on new tracks.

Q: Talking about your mix. What did these tracks mean to you in the past and would you still play them today?

A: Most of this selection have been choosen respecting the periods who left me a musically speaking mark (print) but also the tracks that I discovered when I'm dancing or playing in club regarding my set preparation, I tried to create a puzzle of style of music without being influenced by the trends, travelling between the Techno crossed with the Disco or the music played today. For sure at the earliest opportunity I still play most of these tracks.

Q: You´re a french guy travelling the world. Where´s you´re favorite spot?

A: I really enjoyed playing in India, I love this culture and the people are so grateful, but if I have to choose one city, Hamburg will be my favorite. The ambiance and the crowd there always surprise me.

Q: Which future projects are on the way?

A: Well, this year gonna be very special for me. I will release my first album on Sincopat. I was working on it during the past year and a half, this time I wanted to transmit other vibes leaving my existing comfort zone. At the same time I am preparing two Ep on Sodai and Noir music.

Q: Talking about your mix. How did these tracks have an impact on your career once?

A: I went back to my roots when I was recording this podcast and I think I know my self better after it. I rememored different stages of my musical development across the time with these songs, a thing that you can feel across the journey and perfectly explain about how I met the bass. The first songs are from were I was facing a more calm and melodic moment in my life and after that the things get darker (in life as in music) Minimal and Progressive sounds were added on that time so I wanted to reflect this in the mixtape to finish in a more experimental way, one of the sides of electronic music that always caught my attention and were I found my self identified.

Q: You´re one of the younger guys besides all those older producer and DJs. What do you think are the most important things for younger artists these days to become established to the electronic music scene?

A: I will always say hard work pays off because it was like this with me.

Q: You recently released on Noir Music. Which future projects are on the way?

A: About Noir Music I´m really glad to join the label as I followed it for ages, I released my first song there in early 2017 with my brothers from Animal Picnic and now I just released a remix to the Olivier Giacomotto’s classic tune Bipolar Star also with the Animals, plus im already working on my first EP in the label. About 2018 I need to say that is really full of new projects and musical adventures such as my own record label in partnership with Animal Picnic and David Granha and an Electronica band I started in the late 2017 with a singer from Mauritius and the usual suspects that will receive the name of Vincent and The Barbers.

Q: Talking about your classics selection. How did these tracks change your life once?

A: I come from a very diverse background in Electronic Music, from Classic House to Progressive and everything in between. However the first time I really met the bass in front of a proper sound system was at an after hour and after this I became addicted to those environments. With this set I tried to recreate this deep, dark, dirty and filthy ambiance that I used to love so much, obviously this set is not for the fainted hearts.

Q: From Morocco to the world: how would you describe the electronic music development in your home country?

A: The development has been unbelievable, when we started more than 10 years ago people were laughing at us, now you have up to 10 different underground electronic music parties every weekend around Morocco. Also we have more an more super talented DJs and producers which gives us hope that one day we can be like any other big electronic music nation.

Q: Which exciting projects are on the way this year?

A: We’re celebrating our 8th year anniversary at Moroko Loko and we have some really nice parties on the pipe line. I’m also releasing a few EPs on label that I have been loving for ages, adding to that the launch of our label Prometheus and some amazing gigs all around the world, I’m feeling this year is gonna be a pretty good one.
