A state appeals court yesterday upheld an initiative that keeps thousands of California rideshare and delivery drivers as independent contractors as opposed to employees, something that 59% of voters in the state approved in 2020, but was widely regarded as an effort by the app-based companies to avoid paying drivers benefits.
