Publisher's Summary:
In small-town suburbia, three young men are ready to make their mark.
Solomon is all charisma, authority and charm, down for the moment but surely not out. His half brother, Jimmy, bounces along in his wake, underestimated, waiting for his chance to announce himself. Aleks, their childhood friend, loves his mates, his family and his homeland and would do anything for them. The question is, does he know where to draw the line?
Solomon, Jimmy and Aleks: way out on the fringe of Australia, looking for a way in. Hip-hop and graffiti give them a voice. Booze, women and violence pass the time while they wait for their chance. Under the oppressive summer sun, their town has turned tinder dry. All it'll take is a spark.
As the surrounding hills roar with flames, the change storms in. But it's not what they were waiting for. It never is.
Members Reviews:
My favourite Australian book of the past year.
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Ties so clearly to a real time and place, to real characters. Reminds me strongly of kids I know and knew, a lot of the fucking up is real, the music, the relationship to music is real, these are boys I've known. Here Comes the Dogs presents a different and better narrative around living outside of major Australian cities than I have been presented.
What did you like best about this story?
I'm so glad Musa reads his own work, his voice, flow and tone add so much to the story. It's a shame the sample audio isn't available because he's a great reader.
aussie gangster story, worth the listen
well written character focused story
really captures australian attitudes as well
needed better editing though for narration
good book, interested in next book from author
Great to hear it straight from the author
Great to hear it straight from the author's mouth, and heart.
Happy not to be living their lives, or intersecting them.
