Diana accepts everything that is happening and is willing to do her part because her love for Cat is strong
At last, the end. Diana and Cat will do anything to protect the other. Not always the smartest thing to do. After some difficult moments, the prophecy is fulfilled. Cat is young and inexperienced but he knows Diana is the one from the beginning although he does have the occasional doubt. Diana accepts everything that is happening and is willing to do her part because her love for Cat is strong. This pair is one worth rooting for.
    Waste of time
This series barely made 1 whole book. I didn't want free books I wanted one complete book. It seemed to be a high school writing assignment that was a rough draft. What a rip off thinking that you could charge someone for this crap. But congratulations you won. I bought it hoping it would resolve itself but instead I still feel as if it is not complete and truly disappointed.
    Five Stars
    Good.
    Very original
I enjoyed the entire series. Unique and original. Kept my interest. I read the entire series in one night. Stayed up to wee hours, couldn't put it oxtail I finished it.
    Addictive

    Publisher's Summary:
An engaging and deeply moving tale of a mother and a daughter, Blueprints explores how two strong women survive as the plans they've always relied on fall apart....
Jamie MacAfee's life is almost perfect. She's sure she loves her fiancée, even if she hasn't quite worked out why she won't set a wedding date, and she certainly adores her job, working as an architect on her family's home renovation show.
Meanwhile, her beloved mother, Caroline, has built up her confidence after a painful divorce, working closely alongside her daughter as the very successful host of Gut It! Everything is going to plan until the lives of both women are changed overnight. When the TV network plans to replace Caroline with Jamie as the show's host, Caroline is left feeling horribly betrayed - and old in the eyes of the world.
Then tragedy strikes, leaving Jamie guardian to her small orphaned stepbrother and fiancée to a man who doesn't want the child.
"Who am I?" both women ask as the blueprints they've built their lives around break down. While loyalties shift, decisions hover and new relationships tempt, it's time to find out what they really want - and where their futures lie....

    Good Intergenerational Story
I just realized I read this book a couple years ago and never reviewed it, but I liked it very much. I read it in the Kindle version and made a lot of highlights and notes, mostly along these lines: "I like the themes of age and appearance; nice feminist touch." Here's an excerpt that says it all, and this is about the older woman, Caroline. It occurs toward the end of the book, after the ageist challenges and intergenerational conflicts are all resolved:
"There was a richness to her now, an inner beauty, as though she'd come into her own long after she thought she already had."
An enjoyable read. I recommend it.
    Disappointed
I have read this author before and enjoyed her work; however, I found this book to be tedious at best. Too much dialogue dealing with the ins and outs of architecture and carpentry for my taste and too little on a real story line. I felt that the "rift" between Jaime and Caroline (regarding hosting Gut It) was over played and not entirely believable. Once explained the bond and trust between mother and daughter should be sufficient to put it to rest. The rest of the storyline, to me, was very basic and elementary.
Great book by one of my favorite authors
Another great book by Barbara Delinsky. I've come to count on her to deliver entertaining books, and Blueprints was very entertaining. Caroline and Jamie are coworkers on a home improvement show, as well as being mother and daughter. Caroline learns that the producers of their TV show want to replace her as host with Jamie, because of her age, causing a shift in their relationship. Jamie suddenly finds herself the single mother of her 2-year-old half-brother, a job for which she is unprepared and which creates a rift between Jamie and her fiancée.

Reminiscent of "The Maltese Falcon" and "Blade Runner," this lurid tale wraps around you, and pulls you in. Smoothly written, and agreeably well read.
5 stars!!! Will listen to again and again
A must read! I really enjoyed this one. I can't wait for the next one.
    A great hardboiled/noir read!
This was a really fun story, falling into a world somewhere between Chinatown and Blade Runner. A private eye is hired by a wealthy mogul to find his missing son, mystery and twists ensue. The little details in this near-future setting are incredibly creative and the story really keeps you guessing until the very end (and then some.) Great narration by Mr. Holsopple.
    Left wanting more...
What made the experience of listening to In the Soup the most enjoyable?
    Great writing, great narration.
What did you like best about this story?
Felt like a real place, watch out for this future!
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Lots of warnings and stuff to think about.
    Any additional comments?
Ended too soon, had to listen again a few times, want more so I guess that's not a bad thing...please write more! Need a whole novel or series yum yum yum.
A non-stop thrill ride through "THE SOUP"
Where does In the Soup rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?
This was my first audible book, and it was a great experience.
What other book might you compare In the Soup to and why?
Reminded me of The Maltese Falcon in the noir style and gritty background.
    Any additional comments?
A non-stop thrill ride through the eye of a gritty private-eye and a brilliantly imagined future world. I was pulled into the Story immediately by a desperate situation, and was IN THE SOUP right from the start. Listening to the audio version of this unique story that tells a visceral tale set in a futuristic world. A teen is missing, a private detective is looking for clues to his whereabouts (before it's too late). Told from the viewpoint of the private investigator, we are greeted with the struggle of the oxygen deprivation of his sleep apnea. Descriptive imagery paints in amazing detail the characters, a gritty future world, an amazing array of commonplace future technologies. Kudos to the author for such imaginative tech and the ability to paint the scene in depth with her words. My complements to Brian Holsopple for his awesome voice(s) and reading talents. I found IN THE SOUP to be a virtual page-turner; finishing the entire book in one sitting. Encore!! Encore!!

    Publisher: Mel Reisner
    Genres: Fiction, Contemporary
    Publisher's Summary:
Canyon City, in Southern Idaho, is the home of Canyon State College, a small school in possession of a large football coach - Ben Steinbrecher, a man as strong as Samson and just as rooted in the Bible through his minister father. Known to some as "the Leather Man", the coach is doing his best to raise his mentally handicapped son in a loving home while the love in his marriage dwindles. Already kept from an NFL career by a knee injury, Steinbrecher's frustrations pile up while his coaching career blossoms until, inevitably, he hits the brink of human endurance.
The coach's team is peopled with characters such as Latin-quoting war hero Quintus LeClaire, dropped into Canyon State's football program because of a Vietnam flashback and a chance encounter with a good cop; straight arrow David Talty, raised by colorful Uncle Joe; menacing Brock Banning; and Preston "Taters" Jones. All play roles in elevating the program and in shaping Steinbrecher's path toward the ultimate test of his beliefs and his will to live.

I stayed up reading this until midnight. Reisner's vocabulary is gorgeous, and the subject matter is fresh and interesting--how many people have any real knowledge about football in Southern Idaho during the Vietnam era? This book is significant, and filled with interesting one-liners and historical information. I would be eager to see anything Reisner writes after this.

    Language: English
    Release date: 02-04-16
    Publisher: Hachette Audio UK
    Genres: Fiction, Contemporary
    Publisher's Summary:
Rush Oh! tells the unforgettable tale of a close-knit whaling community in New South Wales where a bright young woman struggles with sibling rivalry, a stern father and falling in love with John Beck, a man with a shady past.
Eldest daughter Mary tells us her story as a loving document of remembrance, ostensibly for her younger relatives, but as the minutes pass we learn how her fierce longing for the itinerant John Beck and the growing complexity of her relationship with her glamorous sister, Louisa, herself involved in a forbidden love affair, have shaped and moulded her.
Shirley Barrett's debut novel is a celebration of an exceptional episode in Australian history, when a pod of killer whales and a family of whalers formed a fond, unique allegiance - the killer whales, each given an individual name and personality, actually helped the whalers to ensnare their prey in return for the first pickings of the captured animals.

Humorous and historical! Excellent! This is the best book I have read - all year! Guys and gals will love this! The novel includes humorous historical information about whaling and killer whales, funny and 'funny sad' romances, humorous family tales, excellent and witty dialogue, and more. Based on actual events and has a great follow up at the end about the facts in the novel. Illustrations are neat as well! I wish more books were as amusing as this one! Definitely will look for the author's next book. This book should win an award. This book deserves A+++++

    Genres: Fiction, Contemporary
    Publisher's Summary:
A riotously funny and deeply insightful adventure through capitalism, the medical industry, family, love, war and wedding planning - from an electrically entertaining new voice.
Meet Veblen: a passionate defender of the anticonsumerist views of her namesake, the iconoclastic economist Thorstein Veblen. She's an experienced cheerer-upper (mainly of her narcissistic, hypochondriac, controlling mother), an amateur translator of Norwegian and a firm believer in the distinct possibility that the plucky grey squirrel following her around can understand more than it lets on.
Meet her fiancé, Paul: the son of good hippies who were bad parents, a no-nonsense, high-flying neuroscientist with no time for squirrels. His recent work on a device to minimise battlefield trauma has led him dangerously close to the seductive Cloris Hutmacher, heiress to a pharmaceuticals empire, who is promising him fame and fortune through a shady-sounding deal with the department of defence. What could possibly go wrong?
    Critic Reviews:
"Man oh man, do I love this book! Audacious, imaginative, and totally wonderful: The whole books zips and zings." (Karen Joy Fowler, author of We Are All Completely Beside Ourselves)
"Wildly brilliant. Razor-sharp, intimate, hilarious and profound. Every page is a delight." (Emma Jane Unsworth, author of Animals)
"The Portable Veblen is the squirreliest novel I ever read. I enjoyed it completely." (Ursula K. Le Guin, author of The Dispossessed and The Left Hand of Darkness)
"A deeply observed universe where heroines are named for economists and the high stakes of capitalism are set to collide with the chatter of small wild animals. Both humorous and wrenching." (Samantha Hunt, author of The Invention of Everything Else and Mr. Splitfoot)
"McKenzie's story of an ambitious young neurologist and the seductions of the darker side of the medical economy is both incisive and hilarious." (Abraham Verghese, author of Cutting for Stone)
"In scalpel-sharp prose, The Portable Veblen's gleefully perverse narrator seduces us with the story of a charming young woman soon to wed a handsome doctor.... I was knocked out, giddily so, by The Portable Veblen." (Nelly Reifler, author of Elect H. Mouse State Judge and See Through)
"Quirky and smart. If you loved Karen Joy Fowler's We Are All Completely Beside Ourselves, you'll love this." (Glamour)

    Any additional comments?
I probably would not have chosen this book except that I had set myself a challenge to read the whole of the long list for the 2016 Baileys Prize for Fiction ( it subsequently made the shortlist.) However, I am so glad I did give it a go and it is definitely a book that should not be judged by its cover (which is really boring.)
The narrative is full of wit, modern-day wisdom, hippy lore, quirky storylines, feisty heroines/female characters, sibling rivalry, misunderstandings and animals who impart advice on life and love. Throw in a healthy dose of cynical corporate mendacity, medical research/ethics, philosophy, hypochondria and wedding planning and you have the basis of a very funny and refreshingly different novel.

    Members Reviews:
    Haunting and amazing.
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Yes. The story was great and gripping. The narrator brilliant and so good it was almost like listening to a BBC play.
Who was your favorite character and why?
All of them except (of course) James.
Which scene did you most enjoy?
Not so much a particular scene but the description and atmosphere was fantastic.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Impossible. I needed to have spaces between myself and the story as it is very dark and intense.
    Any additional comments?
Yes. Huge credit to Katie Moore the narrator. So skillfully read. Not only did she have many different voices to change but ages too. Each time I listened, I knew who she was reading by her amazing talent with accents age and gender. Even sulky teen. All very subtle and not overpowering.
Poignant and beautiful (and very dark)
    Any additional comments?
This is a tragic, haunting and beautiful book, dealing with loss, grief and the complicatedness of families, as well as the interplay of present and past. Katie Moore reads it very nicely, with well-differentiated voices for the characters. I found it extremely moving, and felt (appropriately enough) haunted by its characters for quite some time after finishing it. Myerson writes wonderfully about the way in which old houses can seem to soak up the atmosphere of what has previously gone on within them.
As other reviewers have pointed out, it is worth noting that this book contains several very violent and distressing scenes. While sensitively handled and beautifully written, it is certainly a very dark book and anyone going into it should be aware of that fact. This is not a light read! But it is (in my opinion) an extremely impressive and gripping one.
    gratuitous violence
did not enjoy did not realise it was going to be another story about children being gratuitously killed for fiction
Gripping and moving with great narration
Where does The Stopped Heart rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?
It was one of the best ones - I liked the story and the narrator was great.
What other book might you compare The Stopped Heart to, and why?
It's a psychological novel, exploring grief and family relationships, mixed with a ghost story and I've not read one which combines the two like this.
Which scene did you most enjoy?
The ones where Lottie described the future inhabitants of the house.
Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
It was very gripping and well-paced so I wanted to listen more. The end was moving for me.
    Any additional comments?
The only thing I didn't like was some of the dialogue.
