Ipercontemporaneità e ipertradizione, computer e animismo, grattacieli antisismici e tempietti shinto.

Auteur: Nathalie Azoulai

Narrateur: Elsa Lepoivre

Format: Unabridged

Durée: 6 hrs and 56 mins

Langue: Français

Date de publication: 06-09-16

Éditeur: Gallimard

Genres: Fiction, Contemporary

Critic Reviews:

"Approached with the sensitivity and acuity that is Wood's strength...remarkable in her forensic abilities.... Wood puts an unusually compassionate, hopeful spin on the media's sensationalist practices. The Children confirms her as a captivating, questing writer whose work is well worth watching." "A richly emotional story, suspenseful and romantic, but unflinching in its portrayal of the dreadful reality and legacy of war." (Sunday Mirror on A Week in Paris)

Multiple characters linked by a house

Would you listen to The House on Bellevue Gardens again? Why?

No, once was enough.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The House on Bellevue Gardens?

I can't pick a particular moment, each character has their own back stories and personal crises.

Which character as performed by Helen Lloyd was your favourite?

This would probably be Leonie as she is the link between all the other residents of 11 Bellevue Gardens.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Nothing comes to mind which is probably an indication that this wasn't one of my favourite Audible books.

Any additional comments?

I usually enjoy Rachel Hore's books more than this one. Possibly this was because there were too many characters. The link is the house in London but even the house itself didn't win me over, I didn't feel the descriptions gave the house a character of its own.

Not for those who enjoy action packed adventures

Not such good character portrayals as in other books I have read by this author. Quite a quaint little story, with threads of the lives of different characters running through the narrative. The narrator put unusual inflections in her delivery.

Promted by Edinburgh Book Festival 2016

I only downloaded this book as I will be in the audience when the author is on at Edinburgh Book Festival. I opted to go to this as a 'light hearted entertaining filler-in', as most of the other performances I have tickets for have quite serious political themes. How wrong I was!! This book is not as I originally thought - a shallow piece of easy listening fiction, what I would class as a 'holiday read'. It is a well researched, thought provoking book which would make a great read for any Book Club and I am sure inspire loads of interesting discussion. I genuinely struggled at times to listen to the descriptive passages on animal rights and suffering - it appears to be so well researched and written. Short of one star because the Amazon review implied it was a romantic novel, not the in depth study on morality it turned out to be, with an interesting fictional marital plot to boot. Looking forward to meeting the author in a few weeks in Edinburgh when my question will be - how accurate is the animal research writing - or is that as fictional as the characters?

Bland!

What will your next listen be?

End of Watch, Stephen King

Any additional comments?

Bear in mind that my review is based only on the first five chapters. I found those to be uninteresting, boring, bland. I will be returning it.
