Couldn't finish it - awful narration

I can't judge the story really. It seemed like it had potential. So I gave it three stars.

However, the narration was so poor, I couldn't listen for a whole hour, let alone the whole book. A story set in Australia, with an English aristocrat as one MC. So who would you cast but an Irishman? The strange casting is not the narrator's fault, of course. At least he doesn't try to do accents for the dialogue. On the other hand, he doesn't try to do much at all. The book is narrated in a lifeless monotone, and also delivered in a voice that suggests it was recorded in home late at night and he didn't want to disturb anyone.

It's a shame, I was looking forward to it.

Narration lets this down

Let me start with saying that I love the book! It's a beautifully told love story about an English lepidopterist visiting Australia. So far, so good. I listen to audiobooks all the time, and I have found many gems, particularly in the mm romance genre. This isn't one of them.

Because there are so many great performances out there, our level of expectation has grown. I expect a good narrator to put his heart and soul into it, with superb technical finesse, and a high level of acting experience. Compare N.R. Walker's audiobooks as to how it should be done.

The worst aspect for me was the fact that the narrator has a lovely, soft Dublin 4 accent. Beautiful, but entirely unsuited to voice an English aristocrat and an Australian outback man. There was no connection at all between the narrator's voice and the book. It would've made just as much sense to read it with a German accent, that is, none at all.

Sorry, Ray, you're the wrong man to read this. Also, please invest in a better microphone.

Superior narration for a favorite story

I have enjoyed reading and re-reading this story of an Aussie and an Englishman for about a year now, and was delighted to find an audible version available. The narration is superb, it well matches the pace and cadence of the written story, from beginning to end. I highly recommend this audible version.

Sublime

I read this story when it was first published and I believe I used the word 'gorgeous' numerous times... for good reason. I also wished I could rate it 10 stars. It is an all time favorite story of mine. A story of self discovery - intertwined with a spectacluar setting, a dash of mysticism and strong, yet vulnerable characters.

It would seem impossible for this audio version to be able to surpass such praise, but it does. The beautifully written characters of Davey and Nicholas are brought to life in a lovely, softly accented English by narrator Ray Cross. Stunning work. His delivery is stellar: understated, clear, and brimming with emotion, yet never overdone.

The word play, you have people who know each other, with one knowingly in love with someone they have know for a long time. A modern Shakespeare story, with the fun and chaos that follows real life

Wow hot and sexy

I loved this box set. Their parents got married making them step siblings , but they were never blood related. When they moved in together their parents were good with it, but when she got pregnant that was a different story. This box set is worth the read. The author did a wonderful job writing this story.

4 Falling Stars

What a great concept for a book, I loved that Corinne had the balls to do what she did. I get that her friend was egging her own. But I dont really think Corinne would have done it if she didnt want to. I believe being hurt by her ex fiancé, she kind of needed to shake things up.

Everett kind of surprised me by saying yes. But I think secretly he needed to shake things up as well.

I loved how they got to know each other and how it grew in to more. What a great love story. I cant say enough good things about this shortish listen. It was about healing but healing together and standing on your own. I kind of loved that.

I will say I was a little apprehensive with the narrator at first, because I would have figured a woman would have narrated this story. But in the end I enjoyed it immensely.

I really enjoyed this book it is one of the better books I've read in a while I would recommend this book to my friends so enjoy it

A fast-paced love story

I always love a good love story - short or long and I was looking forward to this one. It disappointed me though with the whole set up, when Corinne hooked up with Everett and invited him to go on a vacation with her. Corinne didn't know Everett at all and I just think she had misunderstood her good friend's suggestions of being open-minded.

I'm not the one to tell the author how to tell her story but it would have been more believable if they had just met in the vacation spot. I also thought that their romance was very fast-paced and I found myself headshaking.

However, the story gets better and I begin to enjoy it after a while. What I loved about the book? It was funny! I found myself laughing from the beginning because of many quirky, akward and embarrassing moments. The conversations between the characters are humorous sometimes, so if you need to laugh, you'll get it here.

The narrator Russell Lord was not the right man for this book. There are so many great female narrators that could have done this one and it would have been so much better.

Yes, this is a great story that contains both a tragedy and family drama that will change both the lives of the hero and heroin.

Every book I have had the pleasure of listening to by AP has been good...her writing is real, and very easy flowing...I like the worlds she builds, and her characters are always fascinating!

Grace comes from an abusive home, a mother who is a blackmailing gold digger...a father who denies her and wants to cause he nothing but pain...and she still has scratched her way up to a successful business...when her sister dies unexpectedly, leaving her baby niece alone, Grace must step up to the plate to become a mom..Her ex boyfriend Mitch offers to help her, but she has some very bad feelings about how they broke it off...and he ultimately hurt her so deeply she does not want to ever forgive him...Grace wants to do whats best for her baby niece...but at what price to her heart?

Good strong characters, lots of angst, no easy forgiveness--for the most part. I felt the ending was a bit rushed. But all in all, a very good stroy and narration

Loved it!

I love love love a strong female heroine who makes the hero grovel for forgiveness. The only thing I was not crazy about was the narrator. I think she was totally wrong for this story. She had absolutely no inflection in her tone and could've been reading the phone book for what it's worth. The narrator was not horrible, but she was not good either.

Sexy Romance with a twist

This romance is everything! I absolutely loved it and ended up finishing the entire thing in one sitting. Its that good!! Without giving too much a way, a sexy millionaire looking for some fun decides to purchase his own island where he builds 10 mansions and invites 10 beautiful and successful women for some fun and adventure. They all think their in for the romance of a lifetime...and they are....they just have a little competition. Lets just say things get a little crazy ;-) I think its her best book yet.

The story is interesting and captivating although you end up not liking the billionaire much because of his tactics on finding a suitable piece of arm candy. I really can't even say I didn't like him, because even though he is doing something most women would object to, he is likable. I liked reading the descriptions of the women he invited to the island along with their matchmakers, who do not know about each other.

What other book might you compare The Billionaire's Private Island to and why?

The author Alessandra Bancroft has written a few other Billionaire Romances, including the Billionaire's Secret Desire. I can compare that book with this one, although it is a totally different story. I enjoy Ms.

Love comes when you dont realy expect it and than you go for a spin!

As I was planning, I waited till I go on a cruise to read the book. I really would like to compare this book to music peace. It goes crescendo almost to the end, and than fireworks. I could not put the book down. Glad I took it with me. Heart worming love story. Was good to visit with all from past books. Thanks mz Warren!

Reminded me of what's important in life

I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys new and different stories. All three books in this series are great.
