I like this book and my students seemed interested in it

I like this book and my students seemed interested in it, but I do think they could have gone deeper in the historical part to make it more educational. I also would have liked more text on how it is celebrated in Mexico.

Good book for 5-6 yr olds

We got this book for our Pre-K class. It might have been better for a kindergarten class. They enjoyed the over all story but didn't seem to enjoy the details. A good book for 5-6 year olds, in my opinion. Bright colors, fun book:)

great quuick story book.

i was asked to read at my grandaughters preschool. it was cinco de mayo week and i was in a time restrain because i learned of the reading a few days prior to date so i looked into a eKindle version, well that worked out very nicely, i was able to share with the class and it was very clear and easy to explain. I loved the tips that are written on practially each page. there were informative history info. about Cinco de Mayo and it's history, very cool.

Wasnt what I expected

I bought this with the idea it would have the option to also read to you and it doesn't. My son will have to get a little furhter along in his abilities before this will be useful.

This is the type of book that any youngster who is into "mighty machines" is going to love!

Are you one of those people who loves to have a big rig HONK, HONK at you? If so this might be the perfect book for you. Big rigs are working trucks and they can go by many names such as "semitrailers, tractor-trailers, or eighteen-wheelers." These trucks carry many different kinds of cargo. They can carry anything from horses to houses. Perhaps you've seen an auto carrier with all sorts of cars traveling behind its cab or, if you're lucky, you may have even seen a big rig towing other big rigs. Flatbed trucks like loggers can "tow up to 60,000 pounds (17,215 kilograms)." Amazing, isn't it?

Some big rigs are refrigerated and if you look closely you can see the refrigeration unit behind the cab. A really "cool" thing is that big rigs "have two parts." In the front there is the tractor and in the back is the trailer where the cargo is stowed. You can check out pictures of the fifth wheel and the landing gear. Of course these working trucks are meant to "go wherever there are roads." In this book you'll be able to see them traveling in the quiet countryside, over a busy suspension bridge, and trucking through snow. You'll learn what a runaway truck ramp is, how truckers can call for help, what kind of fuel they use, you'll learn about truck stops, how many wheels they have, and more. Do you know how many wheels most big rigs have?

This is the type of book that any youngster who is into "mighty machines" is going to love. The full color photographs on every page will keep the big rig lover entertained for quite some time as they examine each and every rig. In the back of the book is a "Big Rig Diagram." The diagram is meant for the young truck lover and does not mention things such as an air dam or more complicated things such as a fifth-wheel coupling, but does point out parts such as the bumper, mirrors, and headlights. Additionally there is an index, a glossary, some "Fun Facts, and a few recommended books and a website to explore. If you have a youngster who can't resist waving at every big rig they see, this is one book you might have to consider!

This is a nice, basic introduction to earth science and the weather. What's your weather like?

When you look up at the clouds you often look for shapes, but sometimes wonder what they are made of. According to this book, "Clouds are made of water droplets." When they combine, they become heavy and that produces rain. Sometimes it rains very lightly, but when it comes down heavy, hard and fast it is called a downpour. If you notice, in the springtime you will see a lot of rainfall. The "rain helps green plants grow" and "flowers blossom." It also rains in the winter time and this frozen, slippery rain is called sleet so you need to "take it nice and slow" when you go out walking.

During thunderstorms it rains and there are also thunder and lightning. "BOOM!" Animals, insects and other creatures act differently when it rains. For example earthworms can be found "on the ground after a rainfall" and "butterflies dangle underneath leaves." The comical looking orangutan will find shelter under a leaf umbrella. What do children do when it rains? When it rains, water flows into "lakes, rivers, and oceans." Later it is heated by the sun and "becomes vapor," goes back into the clouds to form rain and once again we see rainfall. This is "called the water cycle." When rain doesn't fall for a long time, the earth dries and crack, plants die and we experience a drought. When rainfall is excessive, we can have floods that "can ruin houses." If you want to measure rainfall in your area, you can gather some simple equipment and make your own rain gauge!

This is a very basic introduction to weather for ages 4-7 and grades K-3. It does not go into great depth or detail, but is rather designed to interest the young student in earth science and weather. For example in one dialogue bubble, pointing to a rainbow, says "Rainbows sometimes form after thunderstorms." The book can be a stepping stone for further research or simply interest the young reader in nonfiction. The photographs are bright and appealing. This would be a nice book to introduce as a read and discuss book in a homeschool or classroom setting. This is one book in the series, "What's the Weather Like?" In the back of the book is section that tells you how to make and use a rain gauge, an index, a glossary, and additional recommended book and website resources.
